One Complimentary Qantas Club Invitation, Two Travellers...

Hi everyone, I've used this forum as a reader for a while, but just have a quick question on thoughts from experience flyers. I searched the threads but couldn't find anything specific.

My wife and I, and our two infant children, are travelling to Honolulu in September and I have one complimentary Qantas club lounge invitation.

Does anyone know the odds of getting both my wife and I into the lounge on the one invitation, seeing as we are all travelling? I was thinking they might consider it a bit cruel to separate a family

On the other hand, if they did reject one of us, would it be possible for the other to just go into the lounge, find a friendly businessman and ask if they can bring the stranded passenger into the lounge as a guest? I know a qantas club member can do this, and assume maybe silver and above QFF members?

Thanks for any assistance. If all else fails I'll try posting in the thread to see if any other AFF members are travelling that day and could admit one of us

Put yourself in their shoes - why should they do that? Invite and take responsibility for 1 adult and 2 children who they've never met in the lounge

Best bet is to post in the September thread and post your request and see if anyone is prepared to guest you into the lounge

Uld like to regard myself as a friendly sort of chap -- but I'm not sure I'd be prepared to bring someone, who I have never met before, into the lounge as "my" lounge. What would happen if that unkown person mucked up and carried on -- surely the member could be called to account for the conduct of the member. This could compromise the membership of the member.

From what I have heard I doubt you will all get in on the one pass... Send your wife and babies in and let her relax. If you approached me, I would be happy to help but your best bet as others have said may be to post in the thread. You may even come up with another pass. Good luck!

You'd be taking your chances asking people in the lounge as evidenced by the replies so far. It isn't the best form to ask but then I probably would agree in your circumstances. Some people will even offer if they hear you ask at the door.

Wrong, there is no need to take responsibility for the children as they do not require a guest pass at all. The OP can get one adult and the 2 children in but not the 2nd adult - according to the rules.

Wonder what the louunge staff think if a member rolls up to the desk after over hearing someone asking for addiitonal accesss

OP - you might like to go shopping on eBay for a second pass - there are always plenty for sale - this ones only $45 Buy Now - Qantas Club Pass that expires January 2013 | eBay - for $45 I think it will save you a potential embarassment and ensure a smooth pre-flight experience

I actually only took my thoughts on getting admitted as a guest of another from a former colleague, who said she would often loiter around the entrance when on business trips and try to hitch a ride in with someone else. I didn't know if this was a particular woman's wily ways or if it was not uncommon form, but it sounds like it might have been the former.

I'll try posting in the September thread, but if all else fails a second pass or looking helpless with two children at the front desk might help

For the sake of only $45 why not buy the pass as someone suggested and save yourself the worry about it all.

Maybe I will, I'm not sure. Is it worth it? I've never been into the lounge, but for us $45 is quite a lot for a quiet place to sit and some finger food, or is there more to it than that?
I asked a friend who had only been in domestic and they weren't very impressed, but apparently the international lounges tend to offer a bit more.

For accounting purposes, I'd think of it more as $22.50 each and kids eat free

The $45 pass has been sold - not to say another wont be available but I thought that one was an easy and cost effective solution to the OP's dilema

I wouldn't say that and I didn't. You already clearly stated your opinion. That does not have any bearing on my opinion.

As I stated the person using the guest pass to enter the lounge with their children would be responsible for the behaviour of the child.

I asked a friend who had only been in domestic and they weren't very impressed, but apparently the international lounges tend to offer a bit more.

Generally they do in terms of food and drink. You can get substantial "meals" in Int QF J lounges as opposed to antipasto/grazing type food in the dom QPs. In Int lounges the bar opens when the lounge does, so depending on when you get there a champagne breakfast will be a nice touch

Otherwise things like wireless internet/showers/power points/workspace tend to be somewhat similar. Oh and due to fewer int flights, generally they are quieter than dom QPs.

Hmm a bar and meals you say. That could be worth it for the convenience alone, saving us bringing along sandwiches for dinner on the flight (we are flying Jetstar)!

Might keep an eye out on ebay. Gee they sell for a lot though, some folk around bidding over $70 on them. If they were to get their money's worth surely they wouldn't be able to walk out upright afterwards?

Many sell for $45 and some for less - have a look at the completed auctions for an idea of the going rate
