For SYD to IAD all booked on one ticket through VA website.

VA to the US and then VX for the domestic flights to and from East coast of the US.

If I do a dummy booking I can choose and pay for extra legroom seats on VA but get the message that I cannot select seats on VA.

Here's my question(s):

Will I be able to access my VX flights once I get the VA PNR in order to purchase extra legroom seats on the VX flights?
Will I get 2 PNRs at the time of booking - 1 for VA and 1 for VX?

If no, could I buy legroom seats on VX direct through a VX call centre?

(I'm shopping around but have the same issue with NZ and UA) Thanks for any advice.

Thanks

I can't help with regards to VX, but I assume it would be the same as with DL. I'm currently in the US - booked the whole itinerary through VA - PER-SYD-LAX return with VA, LAX-SEA return with DL, all on the same (VA) PNR. If your booking works the same way mine did, you won't receive two PNRs when you book, you'll only receive the VA PNR and, same as you found, I couldn't select seats for the DL flights. You should be able to get the VX PNR by ringing the VA call centre - however I found when I entered the VA PNR on the Delta website, it brought up my booking which showed the DL PNR - don't know how that works, but it did! There were a lot of ongoing technical "glitches" with the booking, but once VA finally sorted those out, I was able to select seats on the DL website - don't know whether I would have been able to select extra legroom seats though as I was flying J anyway, If you can't do do this on the website, the VX call centre should be able to assist (unless they're like SQ where you can only purchase "Preferred Seats" if you've booked directly with SQ).
