Why when pricing international OW airfares on websites they seem to be nearly as much as a return flight? Is there a way around this?
Thanks

Buy a return fare and throw away the return leg.

I would do that on a discounted economy but I am looking at J class and would never want to throw away that much $ away.

Where are you looking to fly to?

I am sure with a bit of info on how many points you have in what ever FF programs you have, one of the experts here will have an answer for you.

Hi - As far as I can tell think we will just fly in and out of LAX - we are looking to go skiing in January. I was hoping to go OW to Vancouver and make our way down to LAX or make our way to HNL and fly back direct from there. Air Canada is the only airline that fly direct from Sydney and only have Y and J - there are more choices to fly Y+ to LAX which is obviously cheaper and have the opportunity to upgrade with Q Points. THanks

When sales come out are you able to buy single legs in both directions??? At other times yes a single fare is almost the same as a return one...

I find that FF pints are invaluable when trying to book one-way fares. My husband and I cruise a little and mostly the cruises don’t end where they start. So we often face this dilemma.

Another solution is that Malaysian Airlines do one-way pricing. This January, we plan to fly to SIN using QFF points for a Classic award in J and then return from Hong Kong in either Y or J on MH, paid.

The difference between one-way and return fares is the taxes. When we moved to UK last year hubby paid one-way Y as his company reimbursed it, while I used ff for mine. QF and some airlines allow one-way redemption while others like AC and US charge same points for one-way and return.

Some airlines will allow you to do an 'open jaw' booking. Usually priced not much more than a normal return flight.

You may be able to get an open jaw online or try a travel agent.

Your other option is to purchase a return flight to LAX and then a one-way airfare to YVR or where you want to go. That should end up much cheaper and you may even want to consider economy for that short leg.

I wouldn't buy a round trip and throw away the return leg as that will get you on the TSA watch list. Better to buy the RT and then call to say you are sick, you mom is sick, dog, etc and can't make it and you don't know when you will return. But that is just a guess.

Travelers who make a RT and don't use the return ticket are labeled as possible terrorist based upon 9-11 patterns.
