One way in Y, the other in J? Award pointz

I have 142,000 Velocity points and want to tavel from MEL to LAX in Y and return in J. From what i can gather, this seems impossible to do. The other option is to travel both ways in Y+, but i really do want to travel home in J as I plan to travel to Alaska and will be flying baxk to LAX from Fairbanks that day and would appreciate the flat bed.
How come the site won't let me book one way in Y and the other in J? Bearing in mind that with only 142,000 points, i would be relying on 'promo' award flights.
Ay help would be much appreciated.
I plan on travelling around this time next year, so it is a while off yet, just doing some research now.
(yes i realise it will be cold in Alaska. That's part of the appeal and the adventure)

Sorry I can't help you with your issue.

However why not book J to LAX, and suck it up and fly economy on the way home? I just posted on another thread that when I travel, I would prefer to do this, as having a great flight on the outbound makes a positive start to my travels ... and coming home being super tired/grumpy/upset/angry/sleep deprived isn't too bad, as I would go straight to my own bed and recuperate anyway.

It is certainly an option I have looked at. The only thing is, no matter how many mock bookings I do, I cannot get a Y flight back from LAX to MEL on points at the award price of 47,000 points.
It would mean 94,000 points in J on the way over (whcih is fine by me) and then paying for a one-way Y flight back, which is the same cost as a return Y flight or thereabouts.
It really isn't a 'reward' flight at all. It's an 'you will do what we bloody well say' flight.
I guess the only genuine option is to fly both ways in Y+.

Thanks triple 7. Will trynthat definitely. Just thought there might have been something i was missing. I worst comes to worst, then return in Y+ is not all that bad.
