Having a bit of a play around with the qantas oneworld itinerary, started and finished a trip in NZ and the base price came out at $3699.00 NZ which is what I expected.

The taxes were a bit of a shock though.

I note that $1095.20 (NZD) of the taxes is fuel surcharge which is a bit of a slug on a $3699.00 fare I would have thought.

Just for a comparison:

ex-ICN DONE4 (as above) with CX as ticketing carrier had +++s of KRW 1 601 400

Same itinerary plated on AA has +++s of KRW 909 400. Would've been even less less if one chooses BA rather than AA for the TATL segment, but I do need to use my EVIPs, and the TA wouldn't have been as willing to plate on AA without any overwater AA content.

Difference of KRW 692 000 which is about AUD 702.62. A stunning difference!

The taxes and surcharges are still ridiculously high.

A simple itinerary SYD-JFK-LHR-SYD with QF has taxes and surcharges of ~A$621! Yes AA is cheaper but it would appear that CX is more expensive. I was under the impression that taxes and surcharges have been on the decrease recently.

It would appear to be QF from his post "qantas oneworld itinerary".
Well in that case he should do a test ticketing through an airline who do not apply YQ on every segment!

(Hey, I'm tired - had a busy weekend - now topping it off with some TBIT Moët)

BB - who was ticketing?

It was from Qantas, unfortunately all future travel plans for me have been put on the back burner, I just got my tax bill for last financial year. :(

If its paid for I am still going but everything else is on hold.

Hopefully all your necessary SCs and miles got posted, what did you have as your reason for visiting the USA.

Of the +++s, my YQ was KRW 278 400 or about AUD 287.44. The next biggest tax is UK APD, as I had 1 stopover in LHR (followed by a departure for DOH), which amounts to KRW 203 300 or about AUD 210.

Apparently she forgot that I wanted to ticket via AA and instead calculated taxes as if she's ticketing via CX. Anyway she's recalculated the taxes, and the total is KRW 7 008 600, which is approx AUD7080. :) A difference of approximately AUD700!

The charge came through on my card today, the bank applied a somewhat dearer exchange rate than what's shown on xe (AUD7208.32 vs AUD7080ish) + a currency conversion fee (AUD216.25). The charge came through as being from "Daejoo Air" which is actually the AA GSA in Korea.
