Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

thanks vetrade- the other challenge I'm having with seat selection is its saying (esp on QR website) that my QF# is in there twice - once for me and once for my wife. The message is "the same frequent flier number has been entered more than once. Please validate your entries and try again". I think because I've used my points to pay for her flights, my number is coming up in her booking, as well as mine.

Has as anyone else experienced this and found a way to overcome it?

I also have this issue for QR. I can select one passengers seats and save them separately, but can't touch the other one without getting the above message. Not sure why, because the FF numbers are different (unless it's tied in the back-end somehow?). For info, I booked using 560k points from one account.

That's not something I have come across so I suspect you are correct and it's a glitch somewhere in the system. Using one account for the 560K points is how most people do it so I can't imagine that is related to your probs. As a stab in the dark maybe ask QF to delete your partner's QFF number from the booking and leave it blank (even though I get that you didn't put in the same number for both pax) on the off chance that it might bypass a glitch, if there is one. Or maybe ask QF to notify QR that there might be a fault in their platform with seat selections - but don't bother trying to contact them yourself because you can waste a lot of time trying to do that.

I'm not confident that my suggestions will do you any good but that's my 2 cents worth.

I should have known that my booking had gone a bit too smoothly. I went to the QR website to choose seats as suggested here and discovered that my MEL-DOH-BCN flight is not showing as confirmed any more. My husband's looks fine. Tried to called Qantas but it is an hour wait as usual. Looks like the agent stuffed something up! What should I do?

The only thing you can do is wait on the line to QF and get them to sort it out. If your seat was previously confirmed QF should be able to get it re-instated for you so don't panic. Occasionally other airlines do this, either by mistake or sometimes they cancel them intentionally. In such cases I have found QF very good at insisting that other airlines honour confirmed bookings. The biggest problem seems to come from airlines either cancelling flights altogether or changing departure times so that connections can't be made.

Thanks vetrade. I finally got them on the phone. They said that once the ticket needs to be reissued, if the ticket doesn't get finalised quickly, Qatar is always in a hurry to re-release the seat. He thinks this is what happened to me. He said he would look into it and call me back but it is something for other people to look out for if they are adding flights to an existing Qatar booking.

I went onto Qatar's website to book the seats and could do all of them except Royal Jordanian. And btw, I had the same issue as Pablo, my husband's ff number is showing for both of us as the points came from his account.

Same thing happened to me with my homeward journey on QR dropping from the booking after a change. A call to Qantas popped the flight back in, and it ticketed about 24 hours later.

For those playing at home, all my seat selections were retained after re-ticketing (change was to add two sectors). If I ever get the motivation, I'll call up to sort out the QR seat selection issue.

Hi all,

I just wanted to say thank you to all the contributors to this thread.

My partner and our almost 2yo son are all booked in for our first 280K reward.

SYD to ICN (via HKG) – Thursday 24 Nov CX110 A330
HKG to ICN – Thursday 24 Nov CX416 A330
ICN to LHR – Sunday 27 November BA0018 787
LHR to ARN – Saturday 4 December BA0778 A320
ARN to LHR – Sunday 12 December BA0779 A320
LHR to JFK – Sunday 12 December AA0141 777-200ER
JFK to YVR – Thursday 15 December CX0889 777-300ER
YVR to SYD - Monday 26 December QF76 747

I think we have an ok mix of carriers and planes to try. I would have liked to get QR in there but we couldn't make it work. Let me know if there is anything that stands out as a bad choice.

Thanks again,

Why are you going to ICN via HKG only to fly back to HKG the same day? Is that a typo or am I missing something?

Oops, typo fixed

That makes more sense.

Only comment is that heading to JFK from LHR would have increased your taxes significantly. May have been better to leave Europe from MAD or HEL, etc. Of course, it depends on what seats are available.

Not really, as it is a transit.

GCMap is telling me you have ~6500 miles to spare. Given the Europe J experience is fairly ordinary (think economy with blocked middle seat) and intra-europe pricing, I'd be tempted to make use of the ARN stop elsewhere, and perhaps do a side trip to ARN from LHR. You'll encounter extra taxes though, unless you take JV's advice re departing LHR.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Further to my previous posts, Qantas rang back to say that Qatar are being difficult and said they will only confirm my MEL-DOH-BCN in three months from now! Qantas said that they are willing to put both of us on QF to LHR and then BA to BCN, obviously a longer flight. They said they will not charge us extra in taxes. I don't know if that will cause other problems in my itinerary. Thoughts?

it would look like this:

MEL-LH-BCN (QF AND BA)
GRX-MAD-TLV IB
TLV-AMM-LHR RJ
TXL-JFK AB
JFK-YVR CX
YVR-HK-MEL CX

Sounds like QR may be intending to make schedule changes - can't see any other good reason they would want to delay confirmation for 3 months. Of course what happens in 3 months if QR won't confirm then? You may be left without options. I guess you have to either take QF's option of LHR - BCN or re-organise your routing. The "we will not charge extra in taxes" may not be something you can hold them to - if you make any changes later all the taxes are re-calculated so any undertaking by QF re taxes now might go out the door if your itinerary changes. In 3 months time you could check again on the DOH - BCN availability but it's important to have a contingency plan in the mean time.

As a suggestion, and subject to award availability of course, could you reroute to fly MEL - DOH - MAD then do BCN & GRX after that?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

We weren't planning on going to Madrid just transiting. Also, don't think Qatar have any availability on 12 Feb. I was thinking we could book the final yvr-mel sector today for any date we could get and then we can just change the date later. Would that require a recalculate oni the taxes?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Yes, the taxes are re-calculated for all flights in your itinerary as at the date of your last change. Even a change in the date of a flight, without a reroute, will trigger that re-calculation.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Looks like we will have to take the Qantas option then, too risky to leave it up in the air.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Having decided we are going to Italy and Greece in September 2017 I am keen to use the points I have stockpiled for 2 classic One World J seats and want to come home through New York for the Presidents Cup. I did a dummy booking but the result was 690,000 points and not 560,000 for 2.

From what I understand the itinerary fits the rules: not more than 35,000 miles and at least 2 airlines other than Qantas. Obviously something is not right. Can someone point out what it is? I take it the last leg back to Sydney is not counted as a stopover or is it?

You can't use Emirates as it's not a oneworld airline.
