Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Once you have your flights booked and ticketed, can you go ahead and choose your seat for non qantas metal?
E.g. LAN,Qatar,BA and IB ?
Yes! You may have to get the differing PNRs from either the Qantas MMB, over the phone, or plugging the QF PNR into checkmytrip.com. Then you can go to each carrier and select your seats. (BA usually charge for non OWE flyers).

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

thanks vetrade- the other challenge I'm having with seat selection is its saying (esp on QR website) that my QF# is in there twice - once for me and once for my wife. The message is "the same frequent flier number has been entered more than once. Please validate your entries and try again". I think because I've used my points to pay for her flights, my number is coming up in her booking, as well as mine.

Has as anyone else experienced this and found a way to overcome it?

This has happened to me as well. I think its the way the flights are ticketed from Qantas. I did go into the QR website and change the FF number to the correct one but the ticket still has the old one. I guess ringing Qantas will sort it out.

Ringing QF does nothing. You need to ring QR to make a seat selection IME.

I also have an 16 hour layover in DOH on a FCO-DOH-SYD in J and was surprised to find it is not eligible for their transit accommodation deal as its a reward booking. We've had to book a hotel in town at our cost and will incur Visa fees etc., but at least we'll get a quick look around Doha city I suppose.

Yeah, I have the same issue with selecting my family's seats on the QR sectors

Hi,

As part of my J class RTW ticket, I will be flying from LHR into JFK. Research into BA J class has returned some less than favourable reviews of the product offered, most notably their 2-4-2 seating arrangement in J. I have since found out about the BA Airbus 318 exclusive J class and the offering's on board this flight look much better. I had one query though before I pursue this particular flight. The route from LHR to JFK includes a short stop on Ireland's west coast to refuel. My question is, will this slightly longer route be added to my overall 'total miles' or is there a generic LHR - JFK distance? The reason I ask is my proposed itinerary is already flirting with the 35,00 mile mark.

Thanks

It's a single flight number so the distance LHR-JFK is used, not LHR-SNN-JFK.

Are you sure that flight leaves from LHR? I thought it was only LCY but I may well be wrong.

Finally, remember also that AA flies LHR-JFK with a superior J seat.

I am on BA001 as well, def out of LCY.
No AA availability for the 4 J I needed....but looking forward to the novelty of an all J flight,8 rows.
And pre-clearance in Shannon as well

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Just completed my 280k J booking. It takes me months of research (especially within this amazing thread, thanks everyone!) to have this thing done, Here is my itinerary:

SYD-SIN-BKK-HKG (with QF 333, CX 343, CX 359)
HKG-FRA-MAD (with CX 77W, LA 789. Pretty happy with the LA B789, would be nice on the wide body aircraft in an intra-Europe flight)
BCN-JFK (with AA 772, retrofitted 1-2-1 seating)
LAX-KIX (with JL 788, sad this route uses JL's "SHELL FLAT NEO" product, it's an angled flat bed. Their flagship product is a lie-flat suite, used on most other North America <--> Japan routes.)
KIX-PVG (with JL 738)
WUH-HKG-SIN-BNE (with KA 320, CX 333, QF 333)

All comes with 11 flights, 15 segments (including surface segment), and around 32500 miles. Surcharge is around $770, I'm a bit surprised, much cheaper than I expected.

It's that cheap because you only have SYD-SIN and SIN-BNE QF segments. LA, AA, JL and CX have no fuel fines.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Thanks for the tips. I thought the BA001 flight was out of LHR as it came up on my search for LHR to JFK (I can see now it says London City in the search). I had not thought about AA flights as they weren't coming up during my search but that seems like a better option. I will pursue the AA flight between LHR and JFK and use the BA001 flight as back up. I presume that the AA flight will have a cheaper surcharge too which helps. Thanks again.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I have started a thread on the regular QFF forum nut thought I would seek opinion here too.

I have had the beginning of my RTW award booking cancelled without notice. I was flying QR from SYD - JRO - DOH stop JRO - DOH - LON, two legs, two different booking's. I happened to check my QFF account today and see that the booking was cancelled last week.

I rang Qantas and was told the second leg was held too long by Qantas and QR cancelled the whole booking. Qantas will attempt to have QR reinstate my dates but said they could see no availability. They have asked me to ring back Friday.

What are my rights here? As an award booking through Qantas and with another carrier it feels like they may just force me to book other dates. Qantas have admitted it was their fault but how can I force them to rectify this?

I would be grateful for any suggestions/ advice.

Yep, this issue has been discussed on here a fair bit recently.

Do you have rights? I doubt you can do much about it... i wrote a letter and got some movement, but still needed to be flexible. Sometimes the path of least resistance can be best... particularly as youll have more flights to book

I've been planning this trip and saving points for several years, to be left in limbo like this is tough. As an award booking through QF on another airline I feel powerless and at the whim of whomever I speak to next at QF.

I will try not to let frustration get the better of me next time I speak to a CSR but it will be difficult considering the situation I have been lumped with. Has anyone had any success escalating their issue to speak with a supervisor? I am concerned that I will be left with no choice but to change my dates and am wondering if pushing hard to have this mistake rectified will get me anywhere.

After reading through this forum I anticipated that the booking process may not go smoothly and would require some flexibility. After having the same QR issues (more than once if I recall), I changed European ports and had one of the tickets fixed via letter. What worked for me, may not work for you... and whilst you wait other J seats are being scooped up. So by all means push, but start thinking of plan b maybe?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

So a number of people have been mentioning QR cancelling segments out of an award PNR recently. I've now had this occur to one of my PNRs... and I think QR has set a new record.

(times below are in zulu time from the Amadeus PNR history)

Setting up the ticket exchange was completed at 19:45
QR came in and cancelled the segments at 20:12

It only took them 27 mins to come in and cancel !!!

They even left me this message in the PNR:

Code:
SSR OTHS 1A AUTO-CANCELED DUE TO LACK OF VALID TICKET

Definitely a QR issue... hardly QF's fault!

Does that mean it isn't manual? Ie there is a bot they are running which is picking up and booting these segments?

That's correct. It's an automated bot.

I still believe QF have let me down. This should be a known issue and flagged accordingly. I have made a booking via QF, they should take responsibility for securing that booking. I had my booking cancelled without notice, if this was done by a bot then surely QF could set up an alert and contact affected passengers? There is a communication breakdown here and I think it is an issue with both carriers.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I know this is the oneworld award thread, but I was wondering if anyone has had these issues with paid RTW booked through QF with sectors on QR?

I can foresee the same thing happening when changes are made, with QF queueing them and then QR cancelling them.

Paid RTWs are less of a problem as there's established industry procedures to resurrect commercial seats that have disappeared, particularly if they were previously ticketed and the ticket was valid.
