Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

----------

I have a feeling your trip is not following round the world paths... try to add BUD to any US city and then to SIN and see what happens ..

No neednto follow a round-the-world path for the oneworld award redemption.

As @cjd600 has said, it will be a married segment issue.

Is HKG-CDG on QR available as a single leg?
If not, you wont be able to marry HKG-DOH to DOH-CDG with a <24hrs stopover, even if the legs are available separately

That's probably it as they are 2 separate bookings. Thank you!

Not sure I want to burn a stopover in Doha, so may have to look at other alternatives.

Not sure of your dates, but AY HKG-HEL, HEL-CDG is one way of doing it (less charges than QR as well), but generally need to snap this one up as soon as released @ 360 days-ish

Trying to book the first part of a 280K J Award & keep getting (4002 [7597]) error when it does the processing before the payment page. Will it have to booked online or is there another possible reason for the error?

PER-HKG-DOH Cathay & Qatar Airlines
Stop for less than 24hrs
DOH-CDG Qatar Airlines
Overland sector
BUD-DOH-SIN Qatar Airlines

Other question I had was is 3hrs enough time for the transit stage at Doha?

Thanks for any advice

If the web engine keeps throwing an error, you can ring the call centre & have them try. They should waive the help fee if its a system problem.

If its on 1 Itinerary, the 3 hrs is plenty for thee Doha transit (although you may want to stay in the lounge for longer...)

Thanks for all the help everyone :)

In the end I went a slightly different route by starting in Singapore & going SIN-HKG-AMS, stop (spend 4 weeks in Europe), AMS-DOH-PER, stop. Flights are on Cathay A330 & 777, Qatar 777 & A380. Will book the rest before I take my first flight next year, gives me a bit of time to work out where I want to go with 3 Stopovers left.

Well done Jeza. How far out did you need to book these flights? I have found very limited J availability to and from Europe.

Hi Ellen10. The SIN-HKG-AMS is late July and AMS-DOH-PER is in late August.

Yes I also found it very hard to find available flights being only Bronze. It took quite a few hours and lots of searching different start points/routes within Oz and overseas. In the end I switched to starting in Singapore remembering a reply to question I had earlier in the thread.

The folks here are very helpful I have found if you have queries.

I tried editing the Wiki without success - maybe someone can add this info.

When booking a JL leg, despite the low fuel fines, Qantas helpfully compensates by adding a 125AUD "Q Surcharge". This appears to be per booking (e.g. an itinerary with either 1 or 2 JL legs generates the same additional 125AUD charge.

This has been discussed previously and I'm pretty sure from memory they are actually fuel fines from JL not just an on-charge from QF, I'm pretty sure @madrooster filled us in on that previously when JL became bookable through the QF website.

I have now booked my outbound flights. SYD via HK to Dublin in J CX for near the end of August. Actually it is a week earlier than we originally planned but I have been watching availability for a couple of weeks and grabbed it when I saw it.
Since then there has been no J CX available. I am silver.

Whilst searching last night I noticed a lot of Malaysian flights have been added to Europe.

Looking at various options for our return flights home to Sydney, which I will be booking in a few weeks.
I can see J availability for MAD - DOH and then DOH - SYD the next day. This would be a multi booking.

A couple of questions:
Ist leg MAD-DOH
2 options - Ist option is RJ via Amman or
BA via LON
I have not flown J on either airlines any recommendations?

Second leg DOH-SYD
The only J option is QR to HK and then CX SYD

If I chose the RJ option the gap between flights is only 3 hours. As this is a separate leg in the multi booking are there any rules about it being less than 24 stopover?

1) have flown BA J (only 747 and 777, not sure what you are on). Its not the best J.....but has flat beds at least.Dire layout looking at your neighbour (forwards/backwards). But the bedding and dining is supposed to have been 'refreshed' for J since I last flew
2) No issue unless you were connecting QR/QR, where married segments might come into it. RJ/QR no probs

First step in booking our 280K J Class OWA (x2 for Mrs Aus ATC + me) starting in August 2019.
We have obtained ideal flights at this stage (late August flights) - well ideal given CX offer next to nothing at present:
BNE-HKG QF97/HKG-LHR BA32
3 days in London with our son.
LGW-GOA (Genoa) BA2688 .
Train to Cinqueterre for a few days, then Florence, and then a cruise out of VCE.
Fuel Fines and taxes so far about $510.00 each. Fuel fines $98 for QF and $213 for BA.

Unsure about the next legs other than that I need to be back in Aus for work early October.....

The above was showing all OK on the website until the final page where I received an error (15709-421). Ended up having to call and via the call back service (thanks for the hints on this), was able to make the booking. Unsurprisingly it was the QF97 flights that were triggering the error, but the QFF agent (Fleur - great service) was able to make it work. The BA legs were allocated without any issue. QF IT at it's best!

Despite the IT failure, I am happy with the result so far. Updates to follow as the itinerary beds down.....

Well done Aus ATC!

It is quite stressful trying to get the plans all together. From SYD I could not see anything in J on QF and BA my only option was via CX and as you mentioned very little supply. I did manage to get my first leg to Europe booked, flying CX via HK to DUB fuel fines and taxes approx $731.

Most of my other legs in Europe show availability on BA ( I have not booked these yet, I was hoping to book these when I book my final flight home via the call centre. Looking at dummy return to Aus bookings there does not seem to be any CX J only PE at the moment and of course nothing only QF!

I haven't updated JL on purpose - the fuel fine only appears under specific situations and I'm still trying to define what those situations are before I go changing the wiki.

Would hopping back to Sydney via Perth or Adelaide work? My QR flight on an A380 is scheduled to arrive in Perth at 1825hrs & you may be able to pick up a QF A330 back to Sydney the following day ex Perth.

I prefer to regard it as a challenge, rather than stressful. But with these bookings you certainly have to be on top of it and pretty much book as soon as availability comes through. My chosen BA flights now have no J availability (no doubt my grabbing the seats had something to do with that).

I saw plenty of options via SYD for BNE-HKG, but the direct BNE-HKG flight is obviously better for us. I should have added I had to search BNE-HKG-LHR as separate legs via the multi city tool as there was nothing showing in J for BNE-LHR.

Intra Europe travel seems to have good availability on BA and IB - I'm expecting we will have to do at least 1 IB flight to meet the requirement for 2 non QF carriers - assuming it will be some combination of BA and QF for the return to Aus. Mrs Aus ATC is not so keen on "adventurous routings" so I generally have to keep things simple......

Sorry - it seems the Wiki entry made it after all. You may want to remove it until you have better information about this surcharge.

Question: Can the OWA be used on code share flights? For example an IB flight number on Air Nostrum.

From the Terms & Conditions page:
14.5.1 A oneworld Classic Flight Reward is a Classic Flight Reward Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Alliance Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Alliance Airline.

I confirm that I have successfully included Air Nostrum in OWA itineraries.
