Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Hey guys.

I'm trying to book a 420K oneworld award:

MEL-SIN QF First
SIN-HKG-LHR-ATH CX Business - BA First - BA Business
ATH-LHR-TXL BA Business - BA Business
TXL-LHR BA Business
LHR-YVR-JFK BA First - CX First
JFK-LAX-MEL QF Business - QF First

Approximately 33K miles. 5 stopovers. 2 airlines other than Qantas. Max 2 transfers in any one city (plus stopover in LHR).

I initially booked it with a business leg from LHR-JFK with no hassles but now am trying to change that to LHR-YVR-JFK in First and the agent can't do it. She doesn't seem to know why. Is it best just to call up and get a different agent or can you see any issues here?

Thanks

Does LHR-xYVR-JFK come up when you search LHR-JFK?
It could be married segments, or something to do with the CX YVR-JFK segment.
As in, there may be rules that only allow you to book it in conjunction with CX HKG-YVR, or not with anything else (eg LHR-YVR).

Thanks for that. That's interesting.

I called again, got a different agent and it went through with a 5k change fee and the charges went up about $400 so looks like it is all fine. But I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference for flights outside the hub. I guess JFK-LAX on QF if not connected to LAX-MEL could be blocked for the same reason.

Now that Fiji Airways is a fully fledged One World Connect partner does this mean FJ can be used in a "One World 140k/280k/420k award redemption?

I tried searching but couldn't find anywhere this has been discussed but apologies if I missed something.

Have just tried a dummy booking ex Nadi - appears to bump a J redemption above 280k.

Question for the brains trust:
Can I book a sector on QF12 JFK-LAX as part of a OW Award ?
I don’t have an onward sector to Australia from the US on QF.
Curious to know if anyone has been allowed to request it before I call up and cause myself a world of pain :p

After playing with test bookings for the past few months, I have come to the conclusion that the programmers behind the Qantas website are very skilled. Not only do they totally try to send you on an airline that just plain doesn’t work with OAB they seem to learn what you are trying to do and close that as well. If only they could put their skills to good use rather than evil J. I am determined that they won’t get the better of me lol.

OK so back to the point. The first flights I want should be available for booking in a few days and the rest in about 6-7 weeks. Is it best to book right away and then call Qantas once all the others are available or wait ,as it is only 6-7 weeks, and try to book them all at the same time?

The biggest problems I can see are getting into and out of Aust but I think I have located a few different ways other than just flying direct from Syd. (thanks to suggestion from people here)

Pretty sure you can - think the restriction is that that flight can't be booked on its own - it needs to be part of an international ticket - with no obligations to be part of a QF continuation.

You might know from test bookings if the flights may be around in 7 weeks. I’d grab them now and cop the change fee when the next ones are released

Hi, trying to get AKL-TLV on CX in J in Sep 19, nothing on QF but CX have reward seats available. Can QF access this for a poor LTS? Thanks for any info.

I'm looking (and have been daily) for CX flight back from the USA. I got some from SYD-SFO, but every day I've been looking at getting back from JFK-AUS, nothing. And it is all the HKG-AUS flights as if you look at JFK-SIN there are plenty of CX seats showing each day.

CX bus class from NY to HK is always 30% full with plenty of seats available ..

Yes book them as soon as they become available. I wouldn't risk waiting the 6-7 weeks. I booked them straight away and added the other flights later.

It is likely that CX has not released those seats to QF. If you are flexible, try QR or RJ.
Thanks we have a bookingvia SYD and HKG on QF and CX atm but it’s mixed, I’m tying for J all the way.

Any chance you think that CX would release on request?:D

Interesting, the article is about revenue pax and I would be on an Award so I wonder if that makes a difference?
I might ring up and try.

I had them ‘accidentally’ connect me QF12 JFK-LAX onto AA LAX-SYD on an award a couple of years ago. They called and made me change to QF LAX-SYD, opening up 4J to accommodate it.
YMMV....let us know how you go
