Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I have a OneWorld award flight that I have booked last year for December this year.

Currently the only option when I try to cancel my booking is a Flight Credit. What does a flight credit mean?
Do I get back the points and cash used for taxes? What about any points I used to add flights to my award booking in the past?
Is this a Qantas oneworld award booking? Award flights may be cancelled for a refund of points and taxes paid. You need to phone the Call Centre and they will cancel the booking for you. Taxes will be re-credited to your credit card and points will be returned to your QFF account.

No, there is no “one bite”. As already posted, the QF website does not mention limiting of free changes prior to the end of October. I have made numerous changes recently for no penalty. However, a CSO that I spoke with, about two weeks ago, had to check to confirm, as she was unaware. After checking, she agreed that there is no change fee at this time.

Thanks, will give them a call, maybe I got one of the unaware agents.

And from what I can tell, this fare is impossible to book over the net so you can automatically add the 2500 pt phone booking fee too.
I've never paid the phone booking fee BUT the airport I want to fly through (Montevideo in Uruguay) cannot be booked online through the Qantas website hence they waive the fee. If it is a straightforward booking, you should be able to do it online

Hi,

I have a Oneworld Award booking from early March 2021.

I am worried ( who isn’t ?) that any one or all of the airlines ( 7 in my case) involved will cancel out and the trip will be wrecked.

I’m looking at the advertised “When you use Qantas Points to book a Classic Flight Reward seat on any Qantas or Jetstar flight, you'll be able to change the date or cancel your booking, free of charge until 31 October 2020.^ That's for Classic Reward bookings for travel up to a year away.”

FAQs are below.

The docs refer to Classic Reward bookings as opposed to revenue ones but no reference to OWAs .

Has anyone had the experience of putting back the dates of a OWA by several months to be on a safe side and not being charged change fees. I am not referring to the situation where flights on the itinerary have been actually already cancelled ( yet) . More that I am being pro active

My booking involves a march 2021 and a may 2021 parts and involves 7 different one world airlines and I am looking trying to change both segments to September .

I may need to do it in a couple of goes to get all the flights available and locked in so it could involve a few attempts.

I am hoping to avoid multiple change fees presumably as long as I complete the changes prior to 31 October 2020 .

I have already delayed one OWA during this period and had difficulty getting fees waived including having to speak to supervisor to resolve the situation . One time I just gave up and paid the 10K points!

What has been your experience – were the change fees waived for you under the circumstances I have described?

Frequently Asked Questions

I had originally booked an international Classic Flight Reward seat, but now I’d like to change to a domestic booking, will the point fee waiver apply to me?

Yes, with the new point fee waiver policy you can now change or cancel your existing Classic Flight Reward booking for free, until 31 October 2020, providing the booking contains Classic Flight Reward seats only, and not a commercial fare.

Does the point fee waiver apply to both domestic and international Classic Flight Reward bookings?
Yes, the point fee waiver applies to both Domestic and International bookings that contain only Classic Flight Reward flights.

I have a Classic Flight Reward and a non-Classic Flight Reward fare (commercial fare) in the same booking, am I eligible for the point fee waiver if I make a change to my booking?
No, the point fee waiver will only apply to Classic Flight Reward bookings that contain only Classic Flight Rewards. If your booking has a non Classic Flight Reward fare (commercial fare) combined with your Classic Flight Reward then the point fee waiver will not apply.

Can I use cash if I don’t have enough points for the Classic Flight Reward seat I want to book?
No, the point fee waiver applies to Classic Flight Rewards booked using points and not Points Plus Pay - Flights. If you are short on points, you can also purchase Top-up points to achieve the balance you need for your booking.

I’m short of the amount of points I need for the destination I want to travel to. How do I get more Qantas Points?
There are hundreds of ways to earn points on the ground. You can also purchase Top-up points to achieve the balance you need for a specific reward.

Does the point fee waiver apply to both one-way and return Classic Flight Rewards flights?
Yes, the point fee waiver applies to one-way, return or multi segment itineraries, provided the booking contains Classic Flight Reward seats only, and not a commercial fare.

I booked a Classic Flight Reward last month, does this policy apply for me?
Yes, the point fee waiver will apply to both existing and new Classic Flight Reward bookings, providing you make changes before 31 October 2020.

I have made a number of changes to OWA booking and not been charged the change fee. Two agents tried to charge me the fee at different times but when I queried they didn't charge it. If they try to charge the change fee I would HUACA.

As you say, there are no change fees up until 31st October. And there is no limit on the number of changes, for awards, in case the Call Centre tries to tell you that only one change is permitted.

Change fees (5,000 points per passenger) will apply from 1st November, unless QF extends this.

Calls that are answered in Cape Town or Manilla, encounter more problems than those of Auckland or Hobart, in my experience. Not that there is a choice in that, other than to HUACA.

The same has happened to me. Some Call Centre Officers may still not be up with all of this.

I'm trying to book a new oneworld reward flight for mid next year. My trip the year got cancelled and I know I might be being too optimistic but hopeful I might be able to do a trip next year.

So far I've had several itineraries Ive been able to find work and have business class availability but when I get to the final screen for payment it errors out. I've contacted qantas on messenger and each time they've told me the qantas flight only has availability in economy. I've tried a few different routes on different days which all show as available on the qantas website but I'm always told the same thing.

Has anyone had any luck booking a business class reward seat with qantas recently?

Certainly no luck for international business seats up to mid year but plenty of other OW carrier seats.

I have had the same problem so I've given up for the time being. No QF J availability for any of the international routes I've looked for but have seen J available on alternate routes with CX etc. - e.g. no QF J SYD - JNB but can get CX to JNB via HKG.

Had the same issue. Ive just booked several SYD-HKG-JNB and worn the extra points. Get the feeling Qantas isn’t releasing their own flights.

It definitely seems like they aren't releasing their seats. I've tried SYD-JNB, SYD-SIN, SYD-LAX, SYD-SFO, BNE-SFO. all have business available but is seems like there is a blocker on booking and only economy can be booked so the payment page doesn't load
