Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

QF canceled my SYD-HND leg which was connecting to HND-JFK (JA). They have release a SYD-LAX seat on QF but they can’t get an award seat on AA for LAX-JFK/LGA.

I have tried multiple city connections on the Qantas website but I can’t get anything that works.

I see on the AA website that they had LAX-JFK award availability for AA members.

Can’t suggestions on the next course of action before I call the call center again?

Availability for AA members is likely different than for their partners such as QF. AA has a range of award pricing, partners only get access to the lowest standard price (the web specials are lower still, but only for AA members).

There are so many ways to get from New York to LAX…. via Dallas, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, charlotte, Philly, Washington (both airports), and so on. It might be a case of needing to do a multi city on Qantas looking for the two separate sectors.

I’d start by looking at AA availability, look for the cheapest awards and any connections, then try and map those acrosss to Qantas’ booking engine.

Hi everyone I noticed some travellers are using one world classic rewards to get to Maldives.Thinking of maybe going there aswell what are the pitfalls? What is the best route using qantas one world partners from bne.
Via Colombo with Sri Lankan or via Doha with Qatar.

No real pitfalls except slim availability of award tickets out of Australia.

There was heaps of availability in economy on all routes out of Aus on my initial planning.

Originally we could only get business class to Male from Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur on (MH) then to Doha (QR) then direct to Male (QR).

At one stage we had 1 business seat going ADE-DOH and 1 going BNE-DOH but the Mrs wasn't too pleased with that.

Once QR released more than 1 business reward seat departing aus we were able to get MEL-DOH but now have to go DOH-CMB-MLE. A small price to pay for a 14hr Q-suite.

So after whinging about QR removing award space, I've found some after the 17th January. Now my RTW looks like SYD-HND-LAX-JFK-LHR-MUC-DOH-HKG-BKK-HND-SYD, all in J except AA2 which is in Y. Here's hoping that QR opens up more seats so I can call up and wait 4 hours for a change :)

I'm on the phone with Qantas making 2 flight changes. All good until he says it can't be ticketed as my previous change a week ago (with the premium desk) is still not ticketed and I'll have to wait and call back.

I told him this is not acceptable and he gave me a plan B where they refund my taxes and recharge. He guarantees me that I won't lose flights or get a big bump in taxes (it should be about $70 different adding one more flight and changing another).

I'm very nervous as I wait on hold!

P.S. Qantas call-back feature worked but took 4 hours instead of the quoted 1-2 hours.
I made a change this morning to one of my RTW's and the agent (Fiji) told me the ticketing centre was closed. I insisted and told them that I knew this wasn’t the case. Finally they complied and contacted ticketing and received new one while on the phone after a 40 min wait

I still don't have mine ticketed. I'll have to call again over the weekend 🙄.

My parents have given up. They originally booked their oneworld classic award in 2019 for travel in September 2020 (as a round the world trip). It was, of course, pushed back to 2021 and then pushed back again to 2022. They are due to depart in a month. My mother just phoned to say the covid entry rules for the various countries they are travelling to is just too much for her to manage and has asked me to cancel it.

Terribly disappointing for them, Danger. Scandinavia's fully open - no testing required anywhere.

Can someone please advise why adding cairns to perth at the beginning of this RTW award booking would break the 318k (J class) rule.
CNS-PER (stop)
PER-DOH-MUC(stop)
MUC-DOH-PER (stop)
SIN-NRT (stop)
NRT-SIN (stop)

Also dont you have to finish in CNS if you start there

Actually, something else regarding this itinerary - my previous itin had an extra sector: instead of JL52 SYD-HND, I actually had SYD-MEL-NRT. Not sure if it's because of this extra sector, but the phone operator from Hobart told me my taxes would go from 1.7k to 2.7k per person, and that it was something to do with extra fuel surcharges and yadayada from J... and also, they had to calculate it manually. Removing the extra flight solved the problem, but I don't think the taxes for a RTW should be 2.7k pp unless some incorrect calculations were made.

You don’t have to finish where you start, but… you do need to count the distance between where you finish and where you started.

From the book of rules:
14.5.3 A one way oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Qantas Points required to redeem the Flight Reward and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.

Thanks for that info. Is there a link to the “book of rules” somewhere
