Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Relax, jkcfc. There won't be any problem because QR re-routed you. Your future itinerary would only be possibly at risk if you didn't get to MLE due to some fault on your part, which is obviously not the case.
We have been re-routed several times in the past because of delayed arrivals or mechanical problems etc. and there has never been the slightest suggestion our ongoing itinerary was at risk.

The most pressing thing you should be worrying about is what you're going to have for breakfast after the drinks. Forget everything else.

This is an excerpt from an email just received from Virgin announcing a new partnership with QR:

" Reward Seat availability is another fantastic benefit of this new partnership, and you’ll be able to use your Velocity Points to book Economy, Business and First Class seats, including Qatar’s renowned Q-Suite (available on select flights), throughout their expansive international network".

That can only mean less reward seats available for OWA redemptions. :(

I've lost my Royal Air Maroc seat because of Qantas's delay in ticketing.

Weeks ago I secured a seat in Y. Last week a seat opened in J. I phoned to book it and spoke with an onshore agent who informed me of the additional taxes and points and sent the ticket off. Today I wake up to an alert from EF advising the seat I'd chosen in J had suddenly become available. I logged into my QF account and my entire booking had completely disappeared. I now don't have a seat anywhere on the plane and Y and J are both no longer available for redemptions. Qantas has put in a request to AT to have the seat reinstated.

Yeah. Without the revised e-ticket, what have we got?

QR already serverly limit the amount of flights into and out of Australia that they release to QF compared to other OW partners. It wouldn't surprise me if they are more generous to VA.

Woke up this morning to a dreaded 'we have changed you flight' email from QF. One of my BA flights in Europe transiting through LHR was cancelled so they automaticly put me on the next flight, problem was the new flight to LHR left after my connecting flight from LHR. I called QF wait time said less than 15 mins, took 45 mins. Fiji CC answered, luckily they was J availability and I was able to fix the problem. (I have no idea what would happen if there wasn't J availability, I doubt the Fiji CC could cope with organising for BA to open a J seat.) I couldn't convince the agent to re-ticket straight away just the usual 24-48 hours, yes I explain the problem with some partner airlines deleting flights not reticketed within 24 hours. So I kept calling back all day, wait times mostly 1 hour. On the 5th call I got someone from Fiji who said he will do it and call me back. I wanted to wait on hold but he wouldn't do that. Anyway I called straight back, whist I was waiting on hold the e-ticket came through. I hung up and the agent actually called me back. He said he pushed through 3 others at the same time. It seems like it takes a whole day just to make one fllight change.

There should at least be some recognition within Qantas or within Oneworld that there are more stuff-ups coming on Qantas bookings than should be expected. There overseas call centres must be costing more in time (and revenue?) correcting errors than they save on wages. A false economy - and that's why many companies have repatriated their call centres.
Agree completely. I have had some wonderful assistance from knowledgeable Australian based staff and some utterly horrible and frankly worrying advice in recent times from untrained beginners overseas. I would love to see Qantas gain some respect again because we can only have so much patience.

Everytime I get advice I know is wrong from an overseas Qantas agent, I think to myself what would happen if my parents or friends are calling up and didn't know that this advice was wrong, and ended up following it...

I'm having trouble booking flights to/from Korea using the Qantas multi-city booking page. I've tried many origin points to ICN (ADL, MEL, SIN, HK, KL, NRT) and even ICN to anywhere and it always says no flights found. Am I missing something? Searching in November to January.

I might have missed this detail in my research here on AFF and over the web.

But just a heads up for QR flyers with OWA bookings. If you have a J ticket and intend to upgrade to the Al Safwa first class lounge from Al Mourjan, they said it's not possible to do a paid upgrade as the E-ticket code is from QF.

I tried to upgrade lounge during both my transits and got same comment. Doesn't matter if you're emerald either. I ended up booking the Oryx hotel lol.

If anyone has a different experience, let us know.

P.S. Btw, thanks for the response in my earlier posts here regarding AY & QF transfer time! I'll post later in the year on how it goes. Those tix are being sold as a bundle online so hopefully no issues.

Are you trying Sydney? Just found this:

Jetstar both ways and 52k points return + $290.94 taxes per person. Quite a bit of availability in December as well.

What's the difference? Seems like it is. Am I missing something?

Qantas has a lot of partnerships like Jetstar, KLM, Emirates, Air France for example which will show up in searches but to be part of the Qantas Oneworld Classic Award you can only use Oneworld airlines . (Note you cant use Fiji Airways as they are not a full member)

Oneworld Partner Airlines
Alaska AirlinesFiji Airways (Oneworld Connect)Malaysia AirlinesRoyal Air Maroc
American AirlinesFinnairQantasS7 Airlines (temporarily suspended)
British AirwaysIberiaQatar AirwaysSriLankan Airlines
Cathay PacificJapan AirlinesRoyal Jordanian

Just been equipment swapped on Al Qataria :(

DOH-IKA changed from A350 Q-Suites to A320 and DOH-TUN changed from the 1-2-1 layout for the 333 to a 2-2-2 layout.

I'm a bit disappointed.

Don't be disappointed on the DOH-TUN change. Those flights are operated using Oman Air aircraft and crew. They are fully flat seats with ample space and privacy (once the divider is raised, at least). While definitely not Q Suites, they're as good as other Qatar J seats.
