Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I haven't been charged the change fee on a business OWA. I thought the change fee only applied to economy bookings or have I just been lucky?
They still seem not to be charging change/cancellations on awards, from recent experience of cancelling one and not being charged.
But, all things normal, J will only avoid the Assistance Fee (8k points I think), not the Change fee.

I’ve commenced a OWA however need to go home early (have booked another flight separately). Do I need to cancel my remaining OWA legs (6k points fee)?

Oh dear. If it is an insurance claim then talk to your insurer before you do anything. Otherwise you would do well to work out what refund you would get in points and fees. It may be less than you'd think - but you should be entitled to at least the tax portion of the untaken flights (less any service fee).

As an alternative, could you shift the flights to later in the year and resume your journey when you are able?

Thank you.

I don’t think it’s insurance related and I’m unlikely to want to resume the journey later. I think a guy tried to traffic me at the Frankfurt train station yesterday and I’m just done and want to go home.

Very sorry to hear that. I hope you get home safely.

I'm really sorry it has turned out to be such a dispiriting experience. Yes you should cancel your remaining flights and see what kind of refund you might get.

Or - as a long shot - could you leave Germany and go somewhere completely different (Dublin? Iceland? Edinburgh? Barcelona?) for a reset and then return to resume your ticketed journey home.

Thanks.

I won’t be travelling this year so will just cancel it.

Just booked my second leg of OWA 48 hours ago which shows as 'confirmed' on CMT and My Booking.

Was ensured even when I pushed back to ticket on the spot that it would be done within 24 hours, this was not the case.

Called back yesterday and was told that it wasn't ticketed due to being a public holiday and not having many ticketing staff (lol) and to wait another 24 hours, and again nothing...

Called again this morning and outlined the issue again, I can now see there has been a credit for the initial points and a deduction of the initial flight plus the new flight but no money has come out of my account and no e-ticket. The lady from Fiji said she can't call ticketing and I would get the e-ticket within 24 hours and as the flight was not imminent it was not a priority to be ticketed.

Is this normal or should I call back and push to have ticketed while I wait?

Which airlines are involved? If it’s all Qantas operated, nothing to worry about. If it Qatar or Malaysia, or Japan Airlines, you need to keep a close eye on it.

This is unfortunately normal and can result in flights being lost. You should definitely keep calling and hope you might get Cape Town instead of Fiji.

I have noticed a significant step-up in the competence of Cape Town staff recently. Last week I made a change to an OWA and the Cape Town staff pushed the ticketing through very quickly and even phoned me back a few minutes later to check that I had received the email. I can't remember when Qantas last called me back prior to this despite at various times being promised a return call.

Update: spent two hours on the phone to Anna from Fiji who was very helpful but not the most knowledgeable. But she did end up sorting the issue of not having valid APIS information and putting my payment through. She was on the phone to ticketing to help assist and diagnose the problem.

So the agent who told me they can’t contact ticketing directly just blankly lied.

I was hesitant to hang up when she said the ticket will come through today but sure enough 15 minutes later it come through all updated.

Now I’m aware of the process, adding the next 4 flights should be a breeze 😅.

It is never a breeze because you can never guarantee that you will find Anna within the few hours before your flights drop away.
