Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Is it a problem if I build out this itinerary as I can and changing the destination country in the PNR?

Yes, this is permissible and probably almost always the way these OWAs are done - it would be rare to find every flight available at the same time. You can change the destination, but I think (although not 100% sure) that the port of origin has to stay the same. You will pay a change fee of 5,000 points per passenger every time you change the itinerary. Changes can only be made by calling the QF call centre.

Thanks for responding. To clarify are you saying you can't change the country of origin? I have to keep it as UK? That's my question rather than being able to add segments (I did a OWE beofr they reinstated the award change fees).

I have never tried to change the country of origin. I have a vague recollection of someone saying it can't be changed, but YMMV.

You can change origin/destination, whatever you like. What can't change is the ticketing currency/point of sale, but given it was done as a release, it would've most likely been ticketed in AUD anyway so it's largely a non issue.

This extract from the rules suggests that it should be possible to change the country of origin, particularly clause 14.7.4 (my bolding):

14.7 Classic Flight Rewards (excluding Classic Flight Rewards forming part of Combined Classic Flight Reward Bookings) - changes to tickets

14.7.1 Except as otherwise stated in this clause 14.7 and clause 14.8, changes are not permitted to any Classic Flight Reward at any time. Any permitted changes are subject to Classic Flight Reward availability.
14.7.2 If a booking is made that includes non-Classic Flight Reward flight(s) and Classic Flight Reward flight(s), then any changes to any Classic Flight Reward flight Segment or Segments in the combined booking may only be made in accordance with the conditions outlined in clause 14.8, and this clause 14.7 will not apply.
14.7.3 Prior to ticketing, Classic Flight Rewards may be changed without incurring a Change Fee; however, any changes will be subject to this clause 14.7 and to the advance purchase and validity provisions set out in clauses 14.2.2 and 14.6.1.
14.7.4 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward after ticketing and prior to commencement of any travel and will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:
(a) change to flight number;
(b) change to date of travel;
(c) change to class of travel;
(d) change to any Segment routing or airline;
(e) change to name (only for Flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket that are operated by Qantas); and
(f) request to cancel ticket and re-credit Qantas Points. Please note that only Qantas Points that would not have expired will be re-credited.

I have booked a Business Class itinerary that has a 70 minute transfer time at Helsinki Airport:
Japan Airlines Flight JL47: Depart Tokyo Haneda 10:40am Arrive Helsinki 2:55pm
Transit time in Helsinki: 1h10m
Finnair Flight AY993: Depart Helsinki 4:05pm Arrive Reykjavik (Keflavik) 4:55pm
I know Helsinki can do short transfers for Finnair-Finnair connections but is 70 minutes adequate for a JL to AY transfer?

Hello, my husband is a bronze tier member with 1.9 million FF points. We are looking to travel from Sydney to US and or EU this time next year with our 2 children and hoping to maximise our points flying premium economy or business. I have read that you can get a business seat for 318,000 pts if you meet the criteria for a one world award flight but I understand this is a time consuming process. Which agencies have people used and recommend to assist in finding FF seats or booking a one world award flight please?

To get you started, there is some detailed information in this thread:

Welcome to AFF @louronnie .

Assistance in finding award seats can be found using AFF's 'sister' site Award Flight Assist.

It's a paid service but you get a quote initially and then decide whether to proceed. They find the seats (if they after there) and you then book them.

I've used them, saving a huge amount of time and stress.

Thanks RooFlyer. Have you ever used QFlyer? Just wondered whether this would offer any advantage over Award Flight Assist given we have Qantas FF points

Its near impossible to get 4 Business classic reward seats on the same flight, you may need to consider flying separately, as 2 seats is much easier i.e. 1 adult and 1 child on each flight.

I have the same situation in August and I have read here previously that it is ok.
Also the booking would not be allowed if it was not possible. 🤞

Setting off on my RTW in J in a few weeks.

MEL - NRT
HND - JFK
(JFK - GIG on LATAM separately via QFF)
GRU - LHR
LHR - CMB
CMB - MEL

Absolutely no dramas with mine... My flights are still ticketed...

Does seem almost impossible to start a route like this any time soon unless you're Platinum and have access to priority seats in/out of Australia?

Trying to plan a trip next year and running into an issue where classic rewards flights appear to be available if searched individually but not in the multi-city search.

Specifically, there seems to be reasonable availability of Tokyo (HND) -> LAX around 3rd of March 2024 in premium economy if I search for just that flight, but not if using the multi-city tool

Anyone know why that's likely to be?

Sorry, not sure mate but I've got another question...I've got a rtw trip starting in Denpasar (so taxes etc. priced in Ind Rup.) I'm trying to add sectors but Q call centre is saying they can't price it & that I need to call Qantas Denpasar direct +622125556300 for them to price it? Does anyone know if this is correct, it's Fiji & Manila CC giving the advice so not confident it's correct...

I know that it is difficult to start in some places because or currency/payment issues . I think Doha is an example .

It's not an exact match, but my ongoing OWA (note the terminology) commenced in Pakistan and was priced in USD. When I wanted to add sectors on a Friday night I was told that a specialist team was required to do the pricing because of the USDs and they worked daylight hours, Monday to Friday. The call centre made the reservation, but I had to call back on the Monday to nudge them on getting it priced. I was worried that the reservations would be cancelled, but they survived the weekend, only to get wiped during the delay between payment and ticketing.

Cool, will try during business hours & see if i get a different result...
