Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

@MelbFlyer
I think this is because you have an existing business class booking not because of the number you called. I am also bronze but since booking two business class OWA recently, go straight through to the premium call centre everytime I call 13 13 13. Agreed it is very useful.

It's been at least a majority business OWA for a while now (initial booking wasn't capped under the OWA) and I've called up numerous times since I've made the initial booking to modify as much as I can to business.

All are in business apart from one leg that's in PE - there's no alternatives now on the date I need, even economy. The only available legs are via EK and I'm not considering it due to not being capped under the OWA and the ridiculous fees that EK charges.

I'll probably keep it as-is, that is of course, unless there are new business reward seats to replace my leg in PE (I hope so!!)

Had a very stressful day trying to add some flights to my OWA. I kept getting told you can't add flights to a booking that hasn't been (re)ticketed. Eventually I got someone to check with the support team and she added the flights but I was on the phone with her for over an hour as she kept getting "errors". It took 6 calls and 3 stressful hours - I was exhausted by the end of it. Still not ticketed and I will need to add another flight tomorrow. I'm not sure whether to try and get it reticketed or not. I've spoken to so many agents who believe who can't add a flight until the booking has been ticketed.

So I tried my luck calling the 13 12 11 number (instead of the normal 13 13 13 number) and it appears that I got through to a premium line even as a lowly Bronze member!

From the personnel's accent, I assume that they were in the Auckland office.

Very helpful - was able to see the requested flight / seats immediately upon giving the details (not the usual "we can't see that flight / seats", "those seats are available for new bookings only" etc).

Got the change done to a day earlier and they called back approximately 45mins after the call to confirm it was all done, I've logged onto the Royal Jordanian MMB portal and the new e-ticket numbers are there!

No change in points (still 318k) but just $17pp in extra taxes. Happy days.

I know it's pretty sad to be excited about such a simple change being done successfully, but that's Qantas for you!

Bottom line - try calling 13 12 11 instead of 13 13 13.
I tried calling 131211 and got the same incompetent OS call centres as usual and my booking is J.

Sorry to hear this.

If not already, email [email protected] with your QFF details immediately for them to try to ticket your current flights.

Once done, try and call up again to add.

I must have got lucky then - the wait music included some speech including "premium agents" - maybe HUACA until you hear those words and maybe you'll get through to a more competent centre.

My 1st OWA flight departs from SYD. I want too add a QF flight from another Oz city to meet that flight from SYD. I was told by the CC that I can't add flight before the 1st flight. Is this true? Does anyone have experience in doing this? TIA.
Just to update. I had to use my QF contact to get my booking reticketed and asked about adding a flight to get to SYD. They added it no problem and it has been ticketed. I suggest people keep calling until they find someone willing to do it.

Bad news for Expertflyer users .
There appears to be a major reduction to the number of airlines that are covered in their award and upgrade section.
This is the email i just received.
Looks like most Star Alliance carriers are gone though this should not adversely affect developing OWA itineraries .
I have found EF useful to fill gaps that QFF points can't cover or OWA rules disallow.
Has Star decided to collectively pull the pin?

Dear subscriber,

Due to issues in obtaining award and upgrade data for the below airlines, we have removed them from our list of supported airlines in the Award & Upgrade search for the time being. I spent about 14 hours on the phone yesterday trying to get a booking ticketed after adding flights a few days ago and needing to add more. After about 15 calls you wouldn't believe the differing stories I was told, no consistency at all. I was told 3 times there was a 'logging error' where the previous points hadn't been logged. Numerous times told there was no error and is in the queue and will issue within 48 hours. Then the next call I would be told there is an error. Told I can't add flights to an existing booking (me : But there are showing in MMB), told it won't ticket. Told I can't add a flight 365 days after the initial booking date so it won't issue. Told the added flights are phantom seats so it won't issue (Me again: but they are in MMB) - Them: don't know how that happened but a ticket won't issue. Told twice it will issue in 30 mins - never did. I rang straight back after told that the 2nd time - got the same guy CT, he now tell me it will be 72 hrs. (Me: but you just told me 30 mins, Him: well that's what ticketing told me.) I kept telling them QF made an error and it didn't issue in 48hrs so I shouldn't have to wait another 48hrs - they don't care.
Eventually emailed the QF execs mid-afternoon.
I finally did get it ticketed after contacting via X and FB - 12hrs after messaging them I got a response from one then the other around 1:00am (must be operated by the same team). After getting a response from them, ticketing took about 10mins.
But wait there's more!!! Sunday morning I got a call from AKL a response to my email to the execs - never thought they would respond on a Sunday. Well they added the flights I wanted and ticketed and will call me back when the final flight becomes available in a few weeks.
My advice on ticketing is try X and FB even if they take a while to respond.

sorry if this has been asked a million times.

regarding the oneworld award flights I was curious which award seats are actually available too book.
For instance I can see availability of business reward seats on the qatar avios website. But those same seats do not show up on the British airways or American Airlines websites. Can I assume that those business reward seats cannot be booked for the oneworld reward?
I'm trying to organise a trip which is mostly europe with asia on the return leg but finding any kind of business availibility for august next year to get to europe is proving very difficult. Is there specific countries that are more likely to have award seats available if you come from australia?

For a Qantas OWA, you will need to pick availability that shows up on the QF website.

oh thats a shame. qantas doesn't play nice with qatar so you can't see anything more then a couple of days out using the QF site. even if british airways is showing that their is availability with qatar(even if its just economy)

Qantas only shows a couple of days of QR flights because that’s all that’s available for Qantas members. If you want QR flights you’ll need Avios - and to buy the flights sector by sector.

I realise that qatar doesn't make available to qantas the same allotments it does other oneworld airlines. But I was mostly curious about how it worked with the oneworld flight option since so many of the websites I looked at said you could use other searches like BA or AA to look for reward flights, note them down and then call qantas to book through them. Its a shame this isn't the case.

That does usually work for domestic UK flights as they dont always show up; but not for international.

Hi Brain trust, need your help which might be silly questions for you. Apologies in advance if this was asked previously as i tried to go through recent pages but could not find any answer or post related to that.
If i fly into EWR and fly out from JFK, does that count as a surface sector?

yes, it is. Technically, EWR is is New Jersey rather than NY. but even if you fly in and out to the same city but different airports, they will still count it as a surface sector.
