Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I suspect it's all individually as the individual sector taxes aren't broken down if done in a multi city search - just a final overall figure.

Still gives a "rough" guide of what to expect though.
Actually that's not necessarily the case. For example departing Aus the taxes on JL are a couple of hundred but departing tokyo its 650 for the same flight.

I think you've misunderstood my post - it was moreso it gives the passenger a "rough idea" of what the taxes would be for each sector as per what they've searched for.

Nothing was mentioned about JL departing Australia or Japan and the tax differences depending on the country of origin.

Moreso what I meant was that it provides a "rough" guide of how much taxes would be if all those individually searched sectors are then combined into the one booking / eventual PNR.

The UK Departure Tax should not be an issue because I think APD does not apply unless a sector commences in the UK. But BA is notoriously expensive for carrier charges.
UK APD does not apply for int transits under 24h, plus LHR-LIS is a relatively(I say that in relation to say LHR-SIN) small charge if applied.

1500 is ridiculous for JFK-LIS imo.

Bit of a split. With the annoying 6 flight limit I can’t put it all together as one, but we’ll see what it comes out to when I book it over the phone. I can’t see it being any less than about $3000 though.

Can you consider any alternatives going to LIS?

ie. Anything via IB instead?

Annoyingly not. No availability showing in IB and even AT doesn't have any seats on the CMN direct (which would be helpful, as that's one of the later stops)

Phone booking is going as expected . One sector showing online as available but the agent can't see it. Also shows on BA. Agent has spoken to "support" and says "it's available as a classic reward but not as part of the one world award". More than 24 hours in each port before/after so it's not a married segment. Any ideas how to guide them in the right direction? It's a JL sector (HND-JFK)

Just trying to work on another of these. I'm not entirely sure the value is there anymore with all these carrier charges!

SYD-KUL (MH) is 1$50
KUL-NRT (JL) is $310
HND-JFK (JL) is $550
JFK-LHR-LIS (BA) is $1551!

I'm not even half way through the ticket and it's up to $2500
Is this pricing as ~$2500 in the multi city tool? I recreated your itinerary with charges of less than $700 AUD

Yep, thanks came out much less once it was all pieced together (about $1600).

Only issue is that JL sector that’s been booked in Y+. Website still shows J available, agents are saying “J is available but not for a one world award”. Now it’s booked I tried HUACA and the latest agent says “it’s only available for new bookings, not existing ones”. Any ideas?

Could it be a point of origin issue? Does it show up as available in a multi-city search originating in Australia, or only when searching for that flight on it's own? This can be a similar effect to taxes and fuel surcharges being calculated differently for different origins.

Yeah it was. I was getting as far as LIS (so with this JL sector) and then I ran out of flight segments so needed to do it on the phone.

ORD is available, however the AA connections aren’t open for booking yet. The agent claims to have sent an email to “OneWorld” to ask them to release the seats, but I’m not sure how likely that will be (or if it’s even true). Tossing up if I’m better off just confirming the ORD then adding a domestic later on (and opening that whole can of worms)

JL had heaps of phantom availability when I was looking to book a coupe of months ago for Christmas/New Year. I do believe it was phantom because there was great availability showing on almost every route when no other airlines had anything at all for weeks on end.

Possibly. Just interesting that three call centre staff and one at the reward ticketing escalations team said they’re available, just not for this booking 🤷🏾‍♀️

Yes, I just had the same response when I found a QF J seat available on the initial leg of a OWA itinerary. Everything is in J except the initial PE scetor. I asked to take up that J seat but was told, "that availability is only for a new booking." Annoying that QF can put that block in.

I need to bite the bullet and find some time get on the phone to makes some changes to my RTW flight later this year. I wish I spent some time reading through this thread as I just hastily managed to cobble together the best business class flights I could find to make the criteria. Still relatively happy with the outcome.

Late last month I received an email advising of some changes to some legs and do I want to accept, need to run the gauntlet and speak to someone.......

If you need to contact Qantas to make any changes, you'll need to have a lot of time, patience, perseverance plus a lot of luck on your side.

Is this a RTW or Oneworld Award booking? (as they are two separate things)

This is a RTW booking, the 318k point version. I was emailed advising of changes to some USA legs, plus Mrs Scotty would like to make a couple of other minor changes too.
I've been putting it off for a day where I have plenty of time.... and patience.
The first flight is in late July so a bit of time up the sleeve

This thread is about the Qantas Oneworld Classic flight reward. There is no requirement to go RTW.*

Oneworld’s round-the-world product is very different. It’s called the Oneworld Explorer. Details of which can be found here: Guide to the Oneworld Explorer Round-The-World Ticket

quick question. trying to make some segment changes and I am being told they can only change to an equivalent seat. So go from business to business, they can't move to a premium economy seat (obviously prefer business but not one available on that date). Just a case of clueless/lazy operator or is there some restriction about going to a lower class with award bookings..

The 318k point capped award is not a RTW booking. It is a Oneworld Award.

a RTW booking is a cash ticket with requirements to travel in a certain direction.
