Hi everyone.

I currently have a flight booked to return from Tokyo-Syd later this month. However changed circumstances mean that there is a small possibility that i miss the flight. I was wanting to know what happens if i check in online and then miss the flight? I am not going to change the flight as that would then mean that i miss commitments in Sydney. So plan on taking the risk... However i was just wondering will frequent flyer points be credited for the flight? Or do points only get credited once your pass is scanned at the gate? And will it give QANTAS any problems?

Hopefully someone can clarify this for me?

Thanks gogo

Welcome to AFF, doing OLCI just indicates you intend to fly, it does not change the fare rules nor will it get you points for a flight not actually taken.

For Qantas, if you check in but then do not fly you will be subject to whatever fare rules were applicable to your fare.

If you had a Red e-Deal or other inflexible ticket, most likely you will forfeit the fare. (Changes to Red e-Deals must be made in advance of 24 hours before departure. Within 24 hours, they are completely inflexible.) If you bought your Qantas ticket ex-Japan, the fare rules are slightly different and you may get credit for your flight minus a pricey fee.

Check your fare rules carefully with respect to cancellations (including no-show) and changes so if you do miss the flight, you know what options you have available to you.

As markis10 said, you won't earn any frequent flyer points or status credits on the flight if you do not actually fly on it.

It will cause problems for Qantas in that they will be looking for you and may send someone walking around the terminal with a sign to try and find you.

They will know however that you have no baggage checked... so there will be no actual delays to departure.
