JQ pax stranded on tarmac at HNL for 4 hours in 'dangerous' conditions

Jetstar passengers trapped in Hawaii

The flight was due to depart at 7.30am local time but passengers were kept inside the plane due to a technical problem.A passenger on the plane contacted The Age via email and said conditions were “seriously dangerous”.He said people were becoming sick and there was no air conditioning.
The passenger, who did not wish to be named, claimed that more than 250 people had been forced to wait on the plane for four hours before they were allowed return to the airport terminal.

Not to unfairly single out JQ, but it does seem like this sort of thing is not as infrequent as you'd hope at some US airports - they even did a 30 Rock episode about it. Pax seem to be treated like warm cargo, which is a bit worrying. Is there a better way of disembarking pax from a malfunctioning aircraft on the tarmac at a standoff bay or something and bus them back to the terminal rather than locking them on the plane?

I suppose the good news is that the passengers didn't hold the flight crew hostage or whatever happened at PVG.

Surely they should have been returned to the gate quickly for a technical issue, especially no air-conditioning!
I wonder if pax had to 'pay' for food/drinks whilst stuck on the plane.

Radio is now reporting the holding time on the tarmac was 2.5 hours and that the aircon was on.
Some passengers gilding the lily perhaps?

What's dangerous about sitting around in a plane on the tarmac? I understand it could get hot if the aircon was off, and for some pax that could be bad for certain health conditions, but otherwise it's basically like flying, except you're on the ground :p

Sort of. I'm not a psychiatrist but a lot of people only want to be in the metal tube for as short a time as possible. So if they're sitting on the tarmac staring at the terminal - they're frustrated as they can't really do anything. Then after mentally adding the time of the flight - it just becomes painful for them. Then again, better to fix a problem than have something go wrong up in the air.

Fairfax is getting worse by the month - they are clearly trolling Twitter for news stories.

Virgin had delays on multiple flights leaving LAX of 3.5 hours last night........is that news worthy?

No matter the airline, they would be trying to get the passengers to a terminal and off the aircraft if they knew the delay would be that long.

Considering the flight is fairly lengthy, I'd imagine it would be bad for things such as DVT.

I once had to wait 3 hours inside aircraft at LHR on a TWA ATH-JFK flight. Flight was diverted for whatever reason and we were not allowed to get off aircraft. Not fun at all. No water, no alcohol, no food. Just waiting.

The other day on QF flight HKG-SYD returned to gate and overall delay was ~90 minutes and that was not fun either although crew handed out water bottles and one could also ask for alcohol as well. Tried to get IFE going a couple of times but everytime they tried to take down generator offline the IFE had to be rebooted. But that was business class only anyway.

A year or so ago in SIN it looked like we would have ~2 hour delay and we were asked to disembark, given vouchers for food and told to come back later. Overall delay ~3 hours.

Some of us suffer from different conditions and I for one do not want to sit in an aircraft on tarmac for that length of time and then have an ~9 hour flight to deal with. If the dealy is that long then let people back outside and re-start the boarding process once ready to take off.

Not complaining about Jetstar but I would not want that sort of delay sitting inside aircraft on ground on any carrier.

How bad is a JQ flight from BKK-MEL?

It's ok in star class as long as you know what to expect and prepare appropriately.;)

I was once travelling with a colleague in starclass and another colleague was in Y. After the flight, I quipped to my fellow starclass colleague, in front of the Y colleague, 'well, that wasn't too bad; I really don't know why people are so critical of Jetstar.' If looks could kill!

No worse than a normal flight from Singapore to London, or Sydney to the US.

The frustrating thing would be not moving. People wouldn't be so stressed if they felt they were going somewhere.

IMHO,

I just hate waiting when i am ready to go I want to go.

But then everyone is the same
