Open Lounges?

Love that pic - very subtle dig at Qantas!

Stylishly dressed woman, wearing expensive looking open toed high-fashion footwear. (The sort of hip statement that would get you thrown out of a Qantas lounge, haha)
Those shoes are ok on QF, it's rubber thongs and active wear they don't like.

Let me assure you, I know women who have been turned away from Qantas lounges for wearing very expensive open-toe footwear like that! And it is an experience those business class flying women were not happy about.

And... clearly Virgin knows some of them too, or VA would not have put them on the model for that pic! Watch the video carefully, and see when the same model walks through the bathroom - she is wearing close toed shoes, so they deliberately performed a shoe switch at some stage!

MrsK and I enjoyed the VA Adelaide Lounge two weekends ago, having experienced the VA Melbourne Lounge back in late Jan. Certainly the food and drink options were light years ahead in Adelaide, which is understandable given Melbourne is very much a temporary fix. I liked the mix of seats/tables that provided a mix of the 'kicking back' and 'getting work' done seats, which is something missing from some of the newer lounges - I'm looking at you QF MEL Business Lounge.

Now that the VA Canberra Lounge has reopened, it will be interesting to have a look. The only downside is I have booked out my next 6 weeks of business travel not on VA, as their flight schedules need to get up to speed first.

Melbourne lounge at the moment is a bit of a joke. 15-20 mins to get service after you order and the only 'real' food is a terrible dry sanga, not sure why they can't operate the same as Sydney, walk up service (which actually seemed to need less staff) and slightly better sandwiches.
The new menu is gradually rolling-out across the network and includes a selection of sandwiches, salads, wraps and healthy snacks, freshly prepared on site:
