For the month of March, 2-class 747-400s will operate select Qantas International services in lieu of 3-class 747-400s. This is due to "operational [Engineering] issues". This has resulted in First Class passengers being reseated into Business Class. The following services are affected:

Code:
QF31 SYD/SIN/LHR 05/12/19MAR08
QF32 LHR/SIN/SYD 06/13/20MAR08
QF73 SYD/SFO 02/09/16MAR08
QF74 SFO/SYD 02/09/16MAR08
If you are booked in the First cabin on any of the aforementioned services, Qantas should have been in contact with you now regarding your options. If not, it would be best to give them a call as the soonest possible time.

A quick check of ExpertFlyer confirms what has been mentioned above...

Cheers

Reckon that's so they can install the new interiors and Y+ perhaps?

Qantas will also make changes to some PER-SYD red eye services due to 747-300 maintenance requirements. Mid-year some 743 PER-SYD red eye services will be downgraded to 763 equipment.

Yes, possibly for Y+, however unlikely for fabric/curtain/carpet upgrades, as they take next to no time, whereas Y+ installation takes at least 2-3 weeks.

I'd imagine these changes are due to engineering requirements.

Cheers

Is this just for a period of time, or will the 743's return?

I am in Y on QF73 on the 15th of March. At the moment there is lots of availability in J & F on this flight so I am hoping my registered upgrade comes through for myself & Mrs Batesy. My worry now is that those booked on the 16th of March change to the 15th and fill my aircraft up.

I will keep praying, we registered under my Mrs Batesy's WP on the first available day to request the upgrade so heres hoping.

That shouldn't impact you should it? If people in F book the 15th to get into F the only impact on J availability should be people fail to get upgraded to F from J.

Yeah I got that - so if people book into F then it should change any likelihood of a Y -> J upgrade.

Fair enough ... however, the less in F the more chance that J get upgraded, hence a higher chance for WHY pax getting a bit of the action.

To clarify. Myself and Mrs Batesy are booked in Y. We have requested an upgrade to J. At the moment F is looking empty so the chances are some J pax have requested upgrades to F, thus making more seats available in J. My worry is if pax booked on the 16th in F move to the 15th this will reduces our chances of an upgrade to J.
Hope this clarifies
