Optus and QFF - Phone Plans

I'm on an old Optus plan that provides unlimited calls/SMS/MMS and 2GB of data (per billing cycle) when roaming.

Roaming recently with Optus was a pain in Europe with 2G showing in some Countries, 3G in most and if I was lucky 4G. I had to manually select operators from time to time to get it to work.

Partner used a physical data travel sim, and her Optus phone using the Esim and it was great.

Next trip I'll get a data sim as 2GB per month is not enough, and Optus overseas is unreliable

Where abouts in Europe? edit: any particular countries that were difficult?

I had some fun and games in Germany last year - needed to manually switch roaming networks if I wanted 4G or calls (couldn’t get both on any one network). But otherwise, generally seamless. UK was fine, pretty sure NL, BE, FR and ES have been fine in the past.
