Optus have a new $50/mth SIM only plan with unlimited calls and data in “Zone 1” countries, and 4GB Roaming Data a month.

I think it’s probably one of the best roaming deals out there as there’s no daily fee, and no limit on number of days as far as I can see.

I found out about it in my The Sizzle subscription.

--> pick 12 month contract and scroll to $50

12 months only, no month to month option, not even at a higher price.
Still a great deal for the convenience of regular roaming.

I travel 2-3x a year overseas, not quite good enough for me yet. and IMO most people spending above $50 I guess will be on a phone plan too.

It is a great deal. Shame Optus' 4G network is terribly congested where I live in Australia otherwise I'd be very tempted.

I'm on this and its great, unlimited calls works well as I make a lot of business calls internationally, and the roaming is fantastic, covers pretty much any country I go to. Combined with hotel WiFi etc 4GB gets me by without issue. I dont tend to stream or anything on mobile, just message/email.

I missed too but it will probably be back again I'd suggest. Depends how desperate you are, even the latest deal is pretty good.

I managed to get this on the $40/month promo back in April 2019 and it's fantastic not having to buy local SIM and being able to make calls/SMS in Zone 1 countries without extra daily charges with Vodafone and Telstra. I realised you can ask the phone agent when the promo is on to see if they can apply a "loyalty" discount which can bring down $50 to the promo price during promotion.

Used it in Hong Kong, Taiwan and New Zealand so far... More countries to come in the next few months of travel.

Just ensure you check the countries you are going that they are in Zone 1 from time to time which covers most of Asia (except Vietnam - which sucks as it's a great tourist destination), North America and Europe. Central / South America, Africa and Middle East are not eligible so far.

Were you able to check accurately from the app how much data you've used over the course of your holiday?

Unfortunately, this great deal was *enhanced* at the start of August. Now starting at $59 p/mth and roaming data reduced to 2GB p/mth.

Fortunately, I signed up in July at $50. My partner scored the discounted $40 for 24mth in June!

Cool. When you go to the Optus homepage and click through SIM only post paid, it only shows the $59 and $79 plans.

It’s still available I think:

$50/mth, 80GB local data and 4GB roaming data per month, plus a $150 eBay gift card.
Yet to get my gift card, but happy that this works out to under $40/mo over 12 months after taking the $150 into account.

Edit: also expecting a 10% discount on the second service after combining my and mrs excel's accounts. But want to get both gift cards first!

Just be aware, I signed up for this early in the year and got it at the $40 price.

When outside Australia, you can all Zone 1 countries for unlimited time.
With inside Australia, you can only call the listed 35 destinations in the T&Cs. This caught me out as I was ringing PNG and ended up with $250 in excess charges. Vietnam is another, its included in the 35 destinations, but when outside Australia is a Zone 2 and not eligible.

Thanks for the heads up!

Signed up for both of us today. Offer is no longer available, but kept asking and got it (we didn’t get the eBay vouchers)
