Just got a reply from VFF Retro in relation to my retro claim for Original Routing Credits while in America.

I was originally booked on DL from SEA - SLC - PHX. Because my previous leg operated by AS ALW - SEA was cancelled, I could not make any of the DL sectors.

I realise that AS metal (even with a DL flight number) is no good for VFF points/SC so I wasn't expecting them for SEA - ALW - SEA.

If I was put onto an alternative DL flight, I would not have had a problem getting points/SC. However, AS put me onto their metal SEA - SFO.

So do I have a leg to stand on with ORC or isn't that a VA thing?

There may be several issues that would impact on your claim.

Your original itinerary was: SEA-ALW-SEA on AS, then SEA-SLC-PHX on DL.

What was your final actual itinerary? and who did you fly in the end?
Was your entire itinerary on the one PNR?

A DL flight number whatever the metal will get you VFF Points and SC as DL was the marketing carrier.

It was part of a larger multi city trip with various PNRs.

However the relevant section on the day was originally ALW - SEA on AS then SEA - SLC - PHX on DL all
on the same PNR. I'm not expecting SC/points on the AS sector.

The DL sectors were changed to SEA - SFO on AS metal & an AS flight number due to the cancellation of the first AS sector.

I have had the answer the same time last year that AS metal even with a DL number means no SC/points for me.

But because this is irregular operations, I'm hoping that I can claim what I originally booked & paid for.

But because this

Your ticket sounds like it was issued by AS? Is this correct?. Then AS will try to get you to your final destination as per your PNR. Even if you could get VFf points/SC on DL marketed but AS metal, you now cannot because due to you missing the DL flight AS took on the responsibility to fly you to your final destination.

Any flights which have DL as part of flight number is eligible for VFF Pts/SC IMO.

Im afraid you only get points/SC for actual travel.

I would try to get refunds for the sectors you did not fly though....

Only a DL marketed AND operated flights earn ( including Delta connection airlines)

Correct, plus DL coded VA flights will also earn points and SCs.

DL coded flights on other airlines (AS, AF, KL etc etc) earn nothing.

The question is, do VFF do Original Route Credits? I have read here that people have been able to do exactly that during service disruption but I can't recall & don't know if it is allowed in the VA universe.

YES- however need to be a manual process by sending in all the details to Velocity. As long as the original flights were valid for earn , you should receive the original routing.

I sent in all the details to retro claims but the person who replied says that because I was on AS metal, that's a no earner. I'm going to give the call centre a call because I believe I've got a firm case here.

I'm not sure if they've got things confused between the original AS sector (which I knew wasn't an earn) but it was the cancellation of that sector which meant I couldn't get onto the DL sectors.

At the time of the rebooking, I asked to fly DL but that wasn't an option.

Was this booked as a Alaska or Delta PNR?

Delta. The problem was that I couldn't get onto Delta on the day because of the cancellation of the first (AS) flight so AS put me onto AS & not DL & that seems to be the issue.

Being a Delta PNR with Delta flight numbers you should have a leg to stand on for this request but expect it to be painful.

I just got off the phone with the GCC. After around 15 minutes on hold as the matter was discussed higher up the food chain, it was confirmed that because it was a DL flight that I was booked on via DL that points/SC should apply because it was not my fault that I could not make the DL flights. I have had to send a couple of further emails however I hope to see the points/SC soon in my account.

Thanks to all that replied.

I'm not totally home yet. I've just received an email from the VFF Gold email address replying to my reply. It's basically a copy & paste of a retro DL claim including reminding me to put my VFF number on any booking which totally misses the point. So according to the email, I have to wait until the flights are confirmed with DL. But because I wasn't on the flights, I'm totally expecting DL to say no.

So it wasn't simply a case of giving me the points/SC because someone further up the food chain said to give them to me.

Let's see what happens!

In the past when I get these types of responses I generally reply with a strongly worded but polite email indicated that this level of service for an gold/plat member s not acceptable and that I would like them to come back to me with an acceptable solution. Generally does the trick.

Happy ending, people!

No email but I was checking my account & I noticed an extra 40 SC to my total. The 2 DL sectors (SEA - SLC & SLC & PHX) have now been credited.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. Another thing that I would not have known if I wasn't a member here.

What happens when my VA flight is cancelled same day and I am rebooked on Jetstar? Am I still supposed to receive the sc and points? I sent an email to Velocity but yet to get a reply.
