OTT "RSA" in the PER lounge

Re: The disgraceful state of the MEL Lounge with no end in sight

Perhaps its a case of "glad I don't fly to perth", it's not a dissimilar experience in the QP.

You make a good point, my only trips to PER have been SC runs where I wanted a bed more than anything in the world :p

Probably needed VA there, before anyone says it ;)

Indeed. Bring back all the weird juices that the Golden Wing Lounge used to offer!

I for one would like to see the juices you get onboard QF J (Berri makes them I believe) being added to the lounge. I'm quite partial to the strawberry and apple combo they have.

Has anyone here completed an RSA course in WA, so can enlighten us to any differences in the liquor licensing requirements at PER compared to the east coast.

They're bloody expensive compared to the juices they use in the lounges now though.

(I buy the Berri juices for home) :)

I also recognise the gentleman described here, and echo the feelings that customer service was not a strong point.

I have an RSA issued by the AHA of WA. Don't know where the VA guy is getting his rules from, but he's wrong. (And yes, I've had run-ins with him before, was not allowed to take two drinks...and he asks for ID every time)

bloody glad he wasnt working the SYD lounge a week ago, I polished off nine different beers in two hours :p. In all seriousness, the few times Ive been through the PER lounge I've never had a problem getting drinks or more then one....must have been lucky not to run into this guy!

Re: The disgraceful state of the MEL Lounge with no end in sight

Actually, I think that's the one. Perhaps he just likes you :(
Last time I was there it was pretty quiet. I just stood at the bar talking to him and in that time, he served me three glasses of white wine while we were chatting about cricket. Maybe he does like me?

Re: The disgraceful state of the MEL Lounge with no end in sight

I will be in the Perth VA Lounge tomorrow afternoon for more than 2 hours, if they are at the bar I will have a bit of fun with them, maybe not the kind of fun they will enjoy.

Was he there? I'm there this coming w/end but doubtful that i'll be there when the bar is open.

Was in the PER lounge today, bar opened at 11. I was waiting for coffee. Customer at 1105 asks for two beers. Barguy responds with "you need your friend to come and get his own" - "that's our policy".

It was all pretty relaxed in the lounge this morning. I haven't been there for about a year. No pancake machine :)

Mining / FIFO flights have been moved to TerminalWA over near the international terminal. I guess that may have affected the one-mouth-one-drink policy of RSA.

By the way - what's with the frosting on the windows. Natural light comes in, but you cant see out. How bad can the view be? Can someone peel it off.

For all the people dissing Perth, I'm sure you won't be missed if you don't come over... :)

But yes, even out in parts of the city this festive season the stupid OTT approach to getting a few drinks has been on the pathetic side... They can never seem to get the emphasis right on these sorts of things, either open slather or too draconian for the majority of people which cause no problem at all...

Is it an RSA "policy" or a VA (or their caterers) policy?

i suspect a bit of both really ... just like at the qantas club they obviously had a problem with a few FIFO's spoiling things for the rest.

Being a sandgroper by birth, I have no option but to visit frequently. I think that's earned me the right to complain about it ;)

I was in the lounge the other day, and said offender behind the bar was there. I was just having a coffee though as it was only around 11:15am. No one asked for two drinks so I didn't see if there was the sternness there.

A modicum of common sense would be the rule of thumb, but as always, it's often easier to just enforce draconian rules. As someone I know once said, it's easier to assume everyone is stupid as that way, when they turn out not to be, it's a pleasant surprise.

You are better for the frosting being there!

I'd rather look at some ground equipment than the frosted windows personally (the NZ lounge in MEL was the same, and then they frosted out the windows; at least the nose wheel of a jet was something to look at at least!).

Did they do that in the NZ lounge in MEL just recently? I was there in early November, and all the windows were clear then - not much of a view admittedly, but at least I didn't have that "shut-in" feeling, as the NZ lounge isn't very big.

Not unless they've removed the frosting? I seem to recall that it was put in several years ago, although perhaps i'm thinking the QF Dungeon (not been in there since turning WP years ago)? Maybe i've got the two mixed up...

*edit*
This is on AusBT: http://www.ausbt.com.au/air-new-zealand-international-koru-lounge-melbourne appears to be half frosted/half clear...

I'll not be in the lounge again until March at this stage so will be sure to look again :)

It's very frustrating how RSA is apparently an acceptable way of justifying terrible customer service. A true shame VA have ignored this issue.

I'd had a heck of a job finding the lounge to start with (had never been through MEL Int before), and was quite surprised to discover it was down in the "dungeons" with a less than impressive view of the underside of a nearby aircraft LOL. To be honest, I don't recall any frosting on the windows at all - I also wasn't feeling particularly well and had the long flight to LAX ahead of me, so maybe I wasn't taking into too many details, although I do remember watching the wet weather roll through that day and hoping we wouldn't get any storms that might delay departure!
