Our turn to whinge on Australia-London fares

Seriously, though, most people can't comprehend the difference too, because the idea of considering the target markets and demographics of demand is beyond them. Most consider a flight between two points to be the exact same thing (except one of them is naturally in the "wrong" direction!), so they expect them to cost the same.

People seem to understand that other products cost different prices depending on the country. e.g. underwater computer I bought this week sells for $1220 retail in UK but has a rrp of $2700 in Austalia ( can be got cheaper but generally shops charging >$2000 )

Odd that they would have trouble understanding that the same applies to flights?

On price comparisons... .Going to Oz in April from UK in April is a lowish season but even so, the BA fare of $2042 r/t LHR-SYD in Premium Economy inc tax is greatly different to ex AU fares

Just Purchased LAX-MEL-LAX rt on QF for USD926 (June out, October Back). Similar period ex OZ, AUD1556 + $25 CC fee(for me). There was no CC fee for the ex USA booking.

I guess 'tis simple - if you are doing regular trips to/from the US/UK/Eur/Asia and wish to travel on the roo, it is generally more cost effective to book return journeys from your regular destination rather than originating in Oz.

Spot on.

The return airfare SIN-SYD I purchased from QF SIN website (June out and Boxing Day back) is almost cheaper than what QF Australian website is selling the Boxing Day flight only....
