Outgoing Passenger Cards (OPC) to be phased out

And now it's official:
Come July 1, one of the small rituals inflicted on travellers departing our shores will no longer apply. From Saturday onward, air passengers will not be required to complete the green Outgoing Passenger Card.

Good riddance. Maybe collect one and in 20 years time post a copy of it here and say 'remember these horrible things?'

Yes good to see it go. It hasn't been looked at for ages surely? I feel like it just goes to recycling when I drop it in that box!

Still arrival cards though...

So glad they are going, wont have to relive my story again.

Being from Perth and not having used the smart gate for departures before, last year at Sydney my wife never dropped hers into the box. We walked all the way to the Air NZ lounge before she asked what to do with hers, and thinking we might get into trouble, we doubled back (except now we know it wouldn't have mattered)!

They gave me one this morning in CBR. Didn't fill it in. No one asked for it in BNE (meanwhile all the desks outside BNE departures were full of people looking for pens)

Just went through BNE international departures. They had these signs up:

The whole process was a breeze and seemed quicker than usual. The desks where people usually stand around completing their green cards were completely bare.

This is a seriously good move, I disliked filling out the useless departure cards for 3 of us everytime. Now to either simplify or totally remove the incoming passenger cards would be a great next step!
