Outragous points plus cash fares PER - SIN with Qantas

I have the unfortunate circumstance of booking urgent flights from PER to LHR for my Mothers funeral so didn't have much time to book.
I managed to get an Emirates business class flights for 2 people return SIN - LHR for $13393 which was great but getting to SIN proved to be difficult for the transit times and dates. So an Economy Qantas return flight PER - SIN was over $4000 so I did points plus cash at 330,000 points and 1800 cash for 2 economy seats. I think that is just a rip off but unfortunately we had no choice :(

Sorry for your loss.

Remember that if you travel on a Australian passport you need to apply for an ETA to travel (or even transit) to the UK since the 8th of Jan 2025.

Unfortunately, booking an emergency flight can be expensive, and Qantas pay+points use a fixed unfavourable point conversion of roughly .66pc, which seems to add up with what you pay.
Safe travel.

Hi @FXBBS, welcome to AFF and so sorry for your loss :(

I was going to ask if you’d tried contacting Qantas about compassionate fares, but just read that they’re not offered for international flights. Glad you managed to arrange travel regardless of the unfavourable costing/conversion.

Take care.

Welcome and condolences,

Unsure when you are flying but there seem to be a few reward options PER-SIN available for say tomorrow (though may not match up with your flight, or be the right date)

  • 61,200 points ~$140 Business via KUL (MH)
  • 24,500 points ~$140 Economy via KUL (MH)
  • 61,900 points ~$149 Economy direct (QF) (Classic Plus)

Thank you, we are flying out tuesday 14th and yes it was a case of trying to get everything lined up time and date wise. Unfortuantely this time it wasn't travel for a holiday so made everything more difficult. I am grateful that at least our flights are all transit with good timings so hopefully it'll be smooth. Bugger the $ (maybe it'll come back to me another way lol)

Thank you, yes we have our ETA. Yeh if you have time to plan it's certainly better, we could've got a jetstar or scoot quite cheap!

Qantas has 2 x classic plus PER-SIN on the 14th for just 71k per person. The 388k plus 1800 seems like an expensive alternative. Not sure if your return date.

Might be worth looking into, and allowing for any cancellation fees it might work out significantly better for you.

That’s a lot of points for a scenic flight!
