Ovation of the Seas, and a few flights along the way.

If you disembark at Marina Bay, it's easy. We walked across to the MRT station and off to the hotel. Are you flying straight back or staying a few days Pushka? If the former and on QF you can check you luggage straight from the port (though it costs - worth it if you want to spend the day in town).

I think we are at the marina bay terminal. We can see the marina bay sands from our balcony.

We are disembarking tomorrow morning but many people have left this afternoon.

Well the December trip we are staying the extra night after disembarking.

In April love_the_life - we can cab it to the terminal.

I love an overnighter on the ship. Strange how people disembark early.

Super interesting tr, thanks.

I have been grumping all day about the downside of booking a ship with 450, can't imagine life on a behemoth like the Ovation.
Otoh, it would be quite an experience, so we may try to have a short ride when a behemoth passes through 'Oz sometime.

First night in Singapore and we went to the night safari at Singapore zoo. An interesting take on how to view nocturnal animals. The trip was about 40 minutes from the terminal and we spent about 2 1/2 hours at the zoo, doing the tram ride and walking the trails.

The marina bay terminal was easy to navigate and we were off the ship and through immigration and customs in about 15 minutes. It took longer to walk between the ship and passport control and the city than standing in line.

The re entry to the ship was a different story with many tours returning about midnight. The security scanning took about 45 minutes with only 1 scanner working but passport checks took 5 minutes.

Disembarkation the next morning was very quick, and from the time we left the ship to getting in a taxi was 15 minutes. A pretty good effort considering the amount of people moving through the terminal. We were suppose to disembark between 7 and 7:30 but were able to delay that until 9 considering the late return the previous night.

Our first day in Singapore was pretty good. I have ever been to Singapore before other than passing through on stop overs at the airport. Why have I not been here before it is an amazing city. Most of the day was walking around marina bay, the gardens by the sea, and the underground malls. We stopped into Tim Ho Wan's Michelin star restaurant for a famous pork bun, prawn dumpling and egg white spring roll. It was pretty good and i would recommend the experience.

Off the explore more of the shopping today and the light show tonight.

Well, that's about it for this trip. Sitting here in the KrisFlyer lounge in Singapore, waiting for our flight to Melbourne. We managed to get row 12 in the "mini cabin". I have read mixed reviews on this row, so let's see if it is quiet for the overnight flight. This will be my first SQ experience, and a J experience at that.

I will do a summary of my thoughts on this flight and the Ovation of the Seas, when I get back home. Off to Melbourne for the day to visit our son, then back to the Sunshine Coast on VA on Monday morning.

SWMBO would love to do a family cruise but I love airports too much and lounges as well

First time walking around Singapore airport, and what a monster it is, butterfly garden! Just as amazing as dodgem cars on a cruise ship. I was not impressed with the food selection in the business class KrisFlyer lounge, and had toast and some breakfast cereal for dinner. Washed down with a martini, of course. The curved screen televisions were great, and it was relaxing before our flight, just the food was not to my liking. We boarded swiftly, about 15 minutes late. Plenty of J customers, but I think e rest of the aircraft was pretty light on, as we boarded and pushed back quickly. It was a quick flight getting into Melbourne early. This was our first experience with SQ in J. First impressions were wow, the seats are pretty big, the screen was pretty big, but that is about where the wow stopped. The entertainment menu was a nightmare to navigate through. When I settled into a movie it was ok but getting there was an effort. E meal was served shortly after take off, and I had the lamb cutlets and strawberry ice cream for dessert. They brought it all at once, and the ice cream was rock hard, so I thought Ok it will thaw, so I won't question this. After eating my lamb, I was approached and told I had the incorrect meal, despite it being the correct food, and they swiftly took it away and replaced it with another meal, which was the same food, but served separately. Then there was the seat juggle, getting the bed down, and I must say I am not a real fan of the angle sleep position. After a few restless hours, breakfast was served very quickly and the continental breakfast was four slices of fruit and a croissant. The experience was less then impressive, and if I had paid for J I would have been very disappointed. Very quick through Melbourne airport and straight across to the park Royal. Not surprisingly, no rooms available at 7am, so a quick call to our son and we were picked up and breakfast at Hey Jude. A bit of shopping and then off to Hellenic Republic for lunch. Pretty well priced food. Back for an amazing nights sleep at Park Royal and an uneventful flight to MCY the next morning. I didn't eat on the flight as I had breakfast in the lounge. Mrs Atleastonce, being very excited that the express entry was open, a first for her from her last four trips through Melbourne domestic. Back to reality and the office an hour after landing, then back to Melbourne on Wednesday night for an unplanned trip. Now sitting in the Melbourne VA lounge waiting for my flight to Brisbane.

Overall, the size of Ovation of the seas was huge. With over 4000 guests on board it never felt crowded, we never need to look for a vacant seat anywhere, the buffet, the deck chairs, the shows etc... The entertainment was excellent, for the most part. Even if some of it was not to my liking, the skill in performing at sea in a confined space was commendable. The crew were over the top friendly, and the way everything was arrange and organized was great. Would I do a large ship again.....probably. I am a bit of an introvert, so I liked the sitting on my balcony watching the world sail by. I am not one for sharing tables every night for a meal to make friends, although a few nights this is good. The new dynamic dining allowed us to sit close enough to our neighbor to talk if we wanted to, but far enough to not appear rude if we didn't. We were never placed with a larger group of people in any restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I am sociable, but when I feel up to it. I need to recharge and a cruise ship and a balcony accommodates that need vey well.

The cruise itinerary was excellent. A few new places which we enjoyed.

Etihad J, yes we would do this again, but given the introduction of the new fees for reward tickets, I am not sure if we will do these flights again in the near future. SQ J, well perhaps on the A380, to compare with Etihad, but not the 9pm flight t of Singapore again.

A great 2 1/2 week break and very enjoyable and relaxing time. Thanks for the comments along the way.

I was never that keen on a cruise (my first had been a cargo ship with 100 passengers from Perth to Singapore in 1982 and I was in a quad share cabin with three strangers - one girl would wake up cough for a couple of minutes and the light up a cigarette!!) - anyway - I did an Alaskan cruise last year and I like my own space and could always find somewhere that was quiet and peaceful.

Thanks for the TR - I will write one sometime!

Great report!

These cruises are certainly different to the P&O one I went on, almost 50 years ago. Maybe time to think again???

Yes. You must. We took 30 years to get over our Oriana P&O experience.

Enjoyed the report. We sailed from Barcelona to Shanghai on Quantum of the Seas last May/June and it was nice to relive the Dubai Singapore leg by following this thread. I can also say that I totally agree that despite the number of passengers Quantum class (and Oasis class) ships have enough individual areas where the crowds can spread out and rarely seem overcrowded.

Singapore cruise terminal is easy to access or depart from and a walk (flat under an awning shelter) of approx. 700mts gets you to the Metro line. We have cruised into or out of Singapore 3 times now and have used it each time.

A nice shot departing Dubai. Isn't that the QE2 in the background? She was sold about 10 years ago, I am glad to know she is still afloat. I enjoyed one of the last trips on the old girl from Dubai to Southampton.

Hi lastrow, yes I think that might have been the QE2.
