Hi all,

Got an upcoming trip and it's my first time flying MH internationally. I'm flying PER-KUL-KTM and due to flight scheduling, I land at KUL at 2200 and don't depart for KTM until 0955 the next morning. This leaves me with the dilemma of what to do for the layover. Presumably my bags will be checked through, and I don't intend on leaving the airport...So I gather my options are to either wait it out in one of the lounges inside KLIA (I'm flying business and am OWE, so should have a few options as I understand it), or to book a room at the airport hotel for the night.

Can anybody who has more experience of KUL than me indicate whether it's likely to be comfortable enough holing up somewhere in one of the lounges for the night? Or is it worth forking over the money for the hotel?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

You have several options, DrA.
1. Check with MH (via their call centre) to see whether you are eligible for a complimentary stay at the Sama-Sama hotel (previously the Parkroyal) and get them to book a room for you if you are.
2. There are slumber rooms in the first class/platinum lounge, which you can use as a OWE member. I've used it once on a 5 hour layover and it was pretty comfortable.
3. The last choice should be booking a room at either the Sama-Sama or the transit hotel (Sama-Sama Express) at your own expense.

sorry, quick q,only the first/plat lounge open to WP? is that different to the plat suite?

Cheers :) I'll give their Perth office a ring on Monday morning and see what they say. I suspect I'll probably end up going with the second option and holing up in a lounge, but we'll see. Might get lucky.

When are you going, given the main lounge is closing soon.

Flying out early December and returning early January. Do you have dates that the main lounge will be closed? Or what the alternative options might be since it will be an overnight layover and the lounge would need to be open 24/7 for this to be a practical option?

I would not rule out heading into town for your sort of stopover, better room for similar money with 4-5 star for $100 or so.

The platinum suite no longer really exists. The whole thing is now known as the platinum lounge. The platinum suite section is only opened up when they need more room.

Thanks for the heads up :)

I actually do have reasons for not leaving the airport during the layover beyond "I can't be bothered leaving the airport" though :)

I would insist on getting a complimentary room at the Sama-Sama Hotel from MH when you call them then! ;)

If you don't want to go through immigration then your only option for a hotel is the Sama Sama Express Hotel which is within the Satellite Terminal. The minimum booking is for 6 hours and then hourly after that. There is another Sama Sama Hotel which is connected to KLIA by a walkway but you need to go through immigration for that.

My two bobs worth is that it is worth "forking out" the money for the Sama Sama Express Hotel.

Can I ask how you're meant to book a room at the Express Hotel? They don't appear to have a website (only the Sama Sama Hotel seems to have one), and I'm not sure if booking through Agoda is legit? Agoda is what's showing up on my google searching.
