Been a few years since I last flew on AA metal. As a OWE I had the pick of most the plane. This is what I'm seeing on the seat map now when logged into QF. A flights are part of a QF booking. I'm sure previously I could grab MCE seats but even without them, this is pretty far back. Any ideas?

What do you see on AA.com? A better selection, further forward for free as OWE, and then others as paid?

Who gets complimentary Main Cabin Extra seats?

  • AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum Pro® and AAdvantage Platinum® members
  • oneworld® Sapphire and Emerald members with elite status on Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Finnair or Japan Airlines

I get an error when looking it up by name and PNR on AA.

Secondary question. Do OWEs still get a free meal on flights where a meal is available for purchase?

Are you booked on the QF or AA flight number?

Try putting your booking into BA’s MMB. They have a direct link to AA.

That site has been very flakey for more than a week, and trying multiple browsers. I find that I need to keep on trying and sometimes I can eventually get in to view the booking.

With AA, I may get to select seats further forward than those offered on the QF site. MCE selection is $$. MCE is often 6 rows, although is variable (legacy US Airways, and other aircraft).

Edit: Does that Row 16 seat have any recline?

AA flights have a QF flight number. Good for earn rate at least.

BA finds it but no option for seat selection. Same with QR and RJ actually.

Quite possibly not but its a short hop from LAX to LAS so I'm not too fussed. I just grabbed a seat in the interim. Might still change it.

I just noticed that my iPhone is getting me into seat selection on AA.com at the moment.

No (well virtually no) difference now between QF and AA earn rates since the JV signed.

BA site is good if it’s an AA flight. If it’s QF you have to do it on QF.

What crack was AJ on when signing the JV? QF gets no MCE and worse seat selection when booking a QF flight number.

Seat selection on QF*AA codeshares is identical to the AA prime flight number. You need to go to the AA site with the AA reference.

Yep, no MCE for Qantas FF anymore.
AA removed MCE for all Oneworld mid-top status holders 01 Oct 2020. For a week or so that included BAEC, but MCE was reinstated for them.
MCE now only for JV partners:-Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Finnair or Japan Airlines

Effective immediately, AA’s partner elites will no longer receive complimentary access to the airline’s extra-legroom Main Cabin Extra seating. This policy change has been updated on AA’s Main Cabin Extra webpage, and we’ve reached out to the carrier for more details. In fact, TPG tested booking a British Airways elite on an AA flight and confirmed that Main Cabin Extra seating is no longer free.

Sorry, this may be a distraction but I think the AA PNR will be different to the QF issued one. Is that correct @madrooster ? Separate question - is the situation changed if you are ticketed in AA paper? Or just a matter of whose FF scheme the booking has on it?

Sucks a whole lotta ocean water.

I take it AA lounge access for QF OW Emeralds is still on?

If you have a good travel agent, you can still get MCE for free as QF gold/plat.

Yes. The AA PNR is different. You need to call up QF for QF codeshares to get the AA record locator.

Yes.

I stopped flying AA Y years ago when I realised how cheap their domestic first is - and thus lots of QF SCs. It’s the only reason I attained and continue to retain WP. And in what was already a good deal, those SCs doubled when the JV was signed.
