The man has no idea. "Anyone who has worked with me closely for a period of time will have a conclusion that is vastly different to what is run in Liberal Party political advertisements," he said.

Anyone? Well how about all those staffers who fled in tears from his office? How about a third of Cabinet, who declined to serve in Rudd 2.0? And how about Julia Gillard, who was his deputy for three years?

My guess is that the next twenty years will be enlivened for Australian political junkies by a stream of memoirs rolling out from those who worked closely with him, and that they will all describe a toxic personality, a politician who almost single-handedly trashed the hard-won successes of Labor though his selfishness, thoughtlessness, carelessness, treachery and yes, his rudeness.

So Sportsbet has called the election in favour of the coalition; paging out bets today. If only they were that quick on melbourne cup!

It's just a strange thing to pay out like that. Stop taking bets maybe.

I have a funny feeling they are trying to swing the election in their favour. After all, it only cost them $1.5m... Pretty cheap for an election campaign.

That's what I hate about betting. It changes things. People might assume that it's a foregone conclusion that Coalition will win and not bother to vote. Or vote differently. It's just fake.

I just said the same thing to my housemate... What if everyone who put down cash now decided to vote Labor so Sportsbet has to pay out again. Not likely though. I don't believe their figures that the coalition will take 90 seats, but think it will be 82 maybe 83.

A lot of money has come in over the last few days for 101 seats or more, although 91-100 is still the favourite. Coalition now basically unbackable with all bookies. You can get 20s around the traps for the ALP.

I don't mind who wins but the likely extremity of this win is concerning. It is looking more and more like what happened in QLD every day.

I'm coalition all the way, and always have been. but do also have a concern if the win is too big. With last terms hung parliament the last thing we need is a massive majority. If only we could control it! But with 9 days to go there is plenty of time of abbot to say something insane and lose a handful of seats.

Paddy Power do it all the time in UK apparently it allows punters to get their money out so they can then back a loser!! It also gets them a lot of publicity as the papers report it.

It's a wipeout for me just a case of who's next leader of the ALP, Bill Shorten is $2.50 He would be an ideal choice for them as far as I'm concerned because he is an absolute rabid left wing lunatic who is clearly unelectable.

Considering Tony Abbott keeps trotting out his daughters, has anybody asked his daughters or Tony Abbott whether their motivation is monetary based considering Tony Abbott took out a double mortgage to send his to private schools?

I see Kevin's telling 'porkie pies' about a supposed $10Billion hole in coalition figures AND now treasury officials have come out and basically said no that's not right. Kevin just doesn't get finance

Postal votes received yesterday and completed last night, being mailed tonight. Don't like the design which has voter information and signature on the outside back (flagrant Privacy Act breach by the AEC); so mailing them in an additional self-supplied envelope.

Wayne Swan, you're the weakest link - goodbye :D

I don't have to "like" someone in order to respect their ability to manage the country's financial situation. And as the Labor party's inability to even critique the Coalition's figures correctly, well, how does Wong even think she has a shred of credibility.

I always laugh when Labor talks money. If Labor says there is $10bn missing, the one thing you can be sure of is there is not $10bn missing,

Well here in Banff today one of the things that perplexed me about this thread was answered-
