For those that might be interested in another Ozjet report
I got to try out O7 this morning and found it as follows
Check In: I arrived at 06:00 for the 07:00 departure and they were trying to get their check in system up. It took about 15 minutes to deal with check in due to the systems. I checked one bag in ( poor bag for once it had no pretty priority sticker on it ) and went to the O7 departure area in Terminal Chav at SYD
Boarding started at about 06:50 and was completed by about 06:55 given the 10 passengers which were on this service
I had seat 8A which is the overwing exit row and had lots of legroom ( 55" approx I speculate ). Row 8 has a drawback in that it doesn't recline, but the business class seat was v comfortable even without reclining. I would recommend avoiding row 7 , since it has normal pitch but does not recline due to it being ahead of the exit
One thing missing from the O7 planes are slide rafts, they expect you to form a circle of 10 people holding hands and have one kid in the middle out in the sea in front of the plane (at least thats what the safety card showed )... I was concerned since we had no kids onboard
In the safety briefing, they did not mention smoking as a hazard, just that it was not permitted due to Commonwealth Regulations
On playing around with the seat, it does seem to be all nicely set up to handle IFE; there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and controls for channel change/brighness/contrast et al all nicely there
There was no pre-takeoff service of drinks
After take off, they anounced that they would be serving breakfast with orange juice ( yes orange juice not the cr4p fusion drink that QF offers ) and tea/coffe and that there was bar service on request
The breakfast was a hot affair and had eggs, bacon etc plus a hot roll. Was quite a decent in flight brekky and they came round several times to top up orange juice, tea and coffee.
The lack of videos was not at all an issue to me;a welcome aboard by Deborah Hutton and a dire "comedy" ( which seems to be typical QF weekend fare ) is hardly something I would have watched
We arrived pretty much on schedule at MEL but did have a slight delay since it turned out thatthe aerobridge was broken and we had to wait a few mins while a staircase was brought to the rear door ( not O7s fault really )
I strolled to bag reclaim in Terminal Chav at MEL and as I got there the conveyor started, 4 bags and an umbrella came through and the conveyor stopped ; ok, my bag may not have had priority tags, but it was the 1st out .. with only 4 bags and an umbrella having been checked in on the flight , bag reclaim was sweet
I was v impressed with O7 and will definately use them again when I can; the loss of 1000 ff miles is not worth worrying about. Unfortunately they only have a limited weekend service , so Im having to fly QF back this eve in why on a 734. I hope that they do manage to gain enough customers to manage to become a long term competitor
