OzJet unveils two-for-one deal

New Melbourne-based airline OzJet has introduced a two-for-one travel special in a bid to boost passenger numbers.

The airline, which began flying between Sydney and Melbourne in November, is offering travellers a free journey for themselves, a friend or relative to be used by February 28, 2006.

OzJet chief executive Hans van Pelt said the special deal will let more people experience OzJet's unique new service at affordable prices.

Of course I'm interested. Who wouldn't want to support a fantastic airline like Ozjet?

Unfortunately though I won't be booking any of these fares. I don't tend to fly Syd-Mel very often... and when I do it's for special things like trying out Ozjet or getting some extra SC's out of a Qantas flight.

There was another article in the Australian the other day (see http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,17763743%5E23349,00.html), which discusses ozJet and there attempts at getting passengers. Some interesting bits:

1) February is the time when business travellers start flying again, so this could be a make or break time
2) A fourth aircraft due later this month, with a fifth in Feb.

Any mention of a frequent flyer program :?:

They really do need a ffp because everyone else has one. Whether it is business or leisure you need some incentive for people to fly with you frequently.

I think they first need to demonstrate that the airline has a future and expand the route network before they introduce a FF scheme. Assuming that they stay around and they develop a decent network, then yes, a FF scheme would be something I think they should look at, but at the moment suspect they have bigger issues.

I would have thought delivery of 4th and 5th aircraft in Feb would suggest that they think they have a future.

I know it is not easy to setup a ffp but even mentioning somewhere that "we are looking at an exciting loyalty program" may open a few more eyes up.

Two-for-one deal is OK but I feel they need a little more.

OT but I would never have considered flying Virgin regardless of the cheap airfares. But now they have a ffp program I will seriously consider flying with them knowing that I may be rewarded, albeit a small reward, for flying with them.

What they need is a schedule that suits their target client base. This will be addressed to some extent with extra aircraft.

Given their silence on the FFP issue, I would suggest we won't be seeing one anytime soon.

Remember where their aircraft are coming from. Feb is not really a busy period for European operators. Might as well send a few aircraft down to Oz rather than have them then sit around Europe being somewhat idle.
