Hi all,

I'm currently sitting on approx 2,600 SC with an expiration date of 30 November (3 days). I've got booked, paid and confirmed flights over next 6 weeks, all on Qantas, which will earn me more than enough SC to hit P1. When I has speaking to WP team yesterday who was assisting with making an amendment to a booking I posed the question of being comped to P1 given my upcoming travel. The rep advised that there was a very good chance that I would be and to call the service department during business hours (it was 10pm) and put in a request.

I know it cannot hurt to try, though I'd be keen to hear if anyone has been successful getting comped to P1. All flights are in F and are fully paid, not rewards flights. Probably a long shot.

Cheers !

I think that is a long shot but definitely worth a try as you have nothing to lose.

By the way dont you need 3,600 SCs with 2,700 SCs on Qantas?

Agree most probably a long shot. Yes 3,600 needed. I'm currently at 2,600. Got 2 separate flights in F SYD-LHR-SYD and 1 SYD-HKG-SYD, resulting in an additional 1,500+ SC on top of the current 2,600. Worst case I re-qualify for WP after the trips.

I very much doubt it, but worth a shot. I asked the same question my self before I got P1 (1.5years ago now,to help with international upgrade requests) & I got shot down & was told there is no way we would comp anyone to WP1.

Long shot but give it a go.

You never know unless you ask...

I'll put very slim chances on being comped up to WP1. They don't give it away.. and it's not like you are only 10sc away, you are still 1,000 away.

Give it a go you my get lucky.

I was 240 SC's short when P1 came out with just over 3000SC's of future bookings. A big no when I called up......but that was at the time of launch. I'd like to think they will be a little more flexible now it is well underway,

Very true on two fronts I think. CL status is the one that has been and still is frequently 'given away' to appropriate persons, politicians, senior execs under negotiated travel contracts and so on as sometimes is a plain WP under business arrangements. I think there are many many people around 1000 SC's away from WP1 just like there are many Golds 300 or 400 away from WP and they don't get comped up.

Also QF did comp you to WP1 then whats from stopping you cancelling your upcoming trips and keeping WP1 status. Thats gonna be a huge factor and on that its a big no. Sure QF could put conditions on going to a higher status, but why would they make it more difficult for them selfs when they dont need to by complicating it.

Anecdotally comps are never given going up, only for requal.
Perhaps not for Platinum One but we have been hearing more and stories of people being gifted status recently. It appears to happen in batches and while the number is not significant it is happening.

Well I am hoping being gifted P1 next year as I don't think I will make it to 3600 currently (1900) without DSC being offered

i don't think you actually have to fly to be considered CL. Just be able to write fat cheques and vote against virgin in the parliament !

now that would have be worthy of a status run

I'm very curious to know if you are successful because the way I see it is you are asking QFF to count travel in next year's membership period in this year to get to P1 AND next year to requalify for WP, effectively double dipping. As it has been said if you were close - say 95%+ - then it would be possible but as you are only 72% I think you can expect a no.

I should also say that I'm not a fan of QFF's fixed membership year, I think the rolling year as EK Skywards works is a much fairer system. If QFF worked similarly then you would have made it to P1 early next year with your requal year being reset to 12 months from qualifying.

Personally I'm of the opposite opinion, because timings can also work in your favour, a few years back after a month of travel into my membership year I had WP for 2 years. I guess YMMV

The ideal would be if "unused" SCs rolled over to the next year, but that is never gonna happen...
