P1 status run- can it be done?

I am quite happy *phew* to be retaining my platinum this year which was my goal
Just have to say good on you for doing that
I agree that , just for one year , it would be nice to be in that lofty heights of P1
Good luck and look forward to hearing the results of all those flights :)

Thankyou kindly. Will update as i go. But i cant help myself and ticket ticket ticket. 24 now. That said i just booked a naughty VA sydney - queenstown J return because its before 31 March reset this year.......oh the pain of the dark side !!

22 tickets booked and still going.....the tickets are taking a while to come through all ticketed n confirmed. the coffers must be swelling up.

First up, I have been one of those P1's that yelled consistently that it is a level that can be useful, but certainly not something ever to be chased.

BUT, I also completely beleive in, not just the right, but the correctness, of anyone pursuing their own happiness despite what logic would oppose. So I wish you so very well in this attempt :)

I must admit I will miss P1 status this year, and the DSC offer got me thinking..... but I vanquished that thought.

I really think that if you are succesful you owe Matt_01 that case of wine - as his idea is a cracker!!! (BTW, his preference for a tipple is a really good GSM - PM me and I will send you his delivery address)

yeh Matt_01 the case is his for sure if this pulls off....life is short maybe its a lil too much up in the Air. I don't think alan is going to name a plane after me but this is good enough for me !

just remember to get his delivery address direct from me - he is a whiz at flying stuff but always gets muddled with his own address ;)

And token01, if you manage to pull this off, you may get a white card with a couple of years validity, but more importantly you will live forever in the hearts and minds of AFF :)

(As an aside, you will also get to gift QFF Gold to someone, and even better, QFF WP to someone else - they will love this also - think key people like wives and children and mother-in-laws :) )

Ye of little faith. During last years offer I could only take advantage of the flying period for the month of Aug. In Feb I purchased 4 or 5 ADL-MEL flex fares. With some planning along the way, pushing back and pulling forward OS meeting into Aug my 4-5 domestic tickets turned into x4 International trips to get her year off to a good start and looking back through my records I had netted a little over 3000 SC (including DSCs) in Aug, it was a tough month.

This year I was just able to purchase more flights for less cash and stretch the flying period out.

i have faith. i also wonder how quick after midnight, the inflate airfares will come down for sale fares. happened quick last time.

I think you, amongst many of us, are hoping that our "preparedness" ;) during the DSC bonanza will move to a new period of discounted airfares.

I am unsure how to take the Qantas position, as they, as always, defy all logic. But it is simpleton stuff to not offer DSC and discounted airfares at the same time - so hopefully they will soon do this latter thing. I find it quite interesting, no, absolutely extraordinary, that they already have Australia - USA Y fares down to the $700 level without announcing this in some huge way. I am expecting that over the next few months (especially after another month or three before Corona Virus becomes official as a global pandemic) for international airfares to offer huge bargains.

Oohhh giving to mother in law's is a very good move 😇

Depending on the specific mother-in-law, this could also involve a gift voucher with the suggestion that China is a super choice as a destination due to the extreme good value and low risk that this over-inflated Corona thingy has produced :)

Oi @juddles I am a nice mother in law

Forgive me if the concept of "oxy-moron" reared itself in my head. :) But I knew, or at least suspected that, in your case, you are perfect.

I am actually blessed with a superb mother-in-law, who I cherish immensely. The fact that I arrange deliveries from QF wines and Dans on a haphazard basis probably also strengthens the relationship :)

The relaxing of the P1 WP gifting (from strictly spouse to effectively anyone) was a great change. I used to give it (as their was no choice) to my wife, which was ridiculous as she always travels with me, so zero benefit. When the rules changed i gave it to my now-adult daughter who got some value :)

24 tickets booked (plus VA?!) is a massive effort.. That's dedication to the cause. I wish you happiness sniffing the white.

re being able to gift Gold. Possibly not. Remember the Gold Gift is a PBR at 2400 SC - but those are not earned with the aid of DSC. taken01 would have to actually have 2400 base SC earned in those 24 tickets to achieve the PBR level - and given the aim was to achieve P1 with DSC it's entirely possible to make P1 without coming near the 2400 level (if that makes sense). I may know someone (cough) who achieved P1 recently with just under 2000 "base" SC on QF/JQ earned.....

(minor point, but just thought I'd make it)

And yes changing partner plat to friend plat was the best change. My PP went unused for a number of years and I kept getting the reminders but could not use it (I don't think the cat would care to be Plat !) but since the change I have been able to make a few friends' lives much happier with gifted plat... a really good change in policy there!

I can't believe I've just seen this thread. I thought I was mad, but apparently someone else had the same idea to run for P1 just to see what it's like. Great minds think alike ;)

I'll just leave my "hard" work below - I paid 8.5k for three runs and I'll be sitting on 3700+ SC post runs. I'll probably give away the F passes to someone on AFF, gotta gain credibility with low post count ahahaha

How many QF flights do you envisage taking once you are a P1?
