Packing Tips

About $24 tp $30 or so - there were also flat 3 / 4 outlet boards with 2 USB slots which is much better design than cube - I have a cube but it's a PITA to use with leads feeding into 4 sides - flat board much better IMHO.

I was thinking the same thing. For years, I've just packed a standard Coles variety $3, 4 outlet powerboard with 10A overload and int. adapter.

The compact nature of the powercube appeals - I don't much care for looks. I'll take one with me this trip and see how I like it.

BUT 2: A mate of mine in Beijing saw a 2 outlet universal power board WITH 4 USB outlets in a market in Beijing a month or so back - RMB40 (AD9.00) - I asked him why the F did he not buy a couple on the spot? Shoulder shrug! I know where the market is and will be straight back there next time in PEK.

Just bought one of these on eBay.

Two USB's are 2.1 A and the other four are 1.0. The sockets are universal.

For those interested, Powercubes are on special today at Zazz. I took mine OS and loved them (so did TRS - they stole one out of my bag at LAX :( last October).

Also they have a five-port 40W USB charger today which looks interesting:

  • USB Port: 5 x USB ports
  • Input voltage: AC 100-240V/50-60Hz
  • Output power: Max. DC +5V/8A
  • Max V/C loading (Per port): +5V/2.4A (Auto regulated)

Snip from another thread

This bag here is the best thing since sliced bread:

I have been using them for 12mths or so now - fantastic - they squish down to nothing and ability to slide over roller bag handle a huge plus.

Thanks for the tip! Exactly what I was just about to start looking for, given BA-BA/IB no longer interlines (even thought my tickets were booked well ahead of the announcement). Can pack one of these in my bag and then check it in on the way back to the UK as we have an overnight stopover on the way home, therefore can expand into it. Nice and cheap on eBay (~$7.20 AUD).

My trick is take half of what I think I will need and if a little short I have a credit card and I will be fine

I am so OCD. I lay out everything I think I might need, match up clothes and shoes and accessories  Then I have to take half away or I would be over the weight limit... but needing something is a great excuse to shop ;)
I love the packing cubes, but I found them to make the items take up more space then necessary. Great if you are staying in one place for a long time, just open them up but not for shorter trips as I had to open them all up to find what I was looking for. Perhaps get different colours for different items might help.

One thing I always bring is roll up vacuum bags. They are a blessing if you need to bring home bulky items or have things that might be a bit smelly and needs a wash.

As long as I have a wallet, passport, ipod, headphones, phone + a spare clean pair of jocks and socks, I'll be right!

I have my "man bag" (as my better half calls it) which pretty much stays complete awaiting a quick exit.

What are these and where do you get them?

Isn't it awesome how we're all so different? I've loved packing cubes on my last few trips *because* of the shuffling around from hotel to hotel. Having clothes in the cubes was so much neater, and much less re-packing between places. Pop them in the drawers, or leave in the suitcase, all easy to get at. Different colours for different items is great (I also use different colours for different family members). A friend of mine packs in outfits, that might also make it easier?

Every other week they are on special at Kathmandu say 3 for $25, so you can see and handle them to see if they are for you. I use different size and coloured ones. The biggest one is only used for long trips to places needing everything from Arctic to tropics clothes.

Link for packing cubes pls?
