Parking cars - drive in or reverse in?

I don't drive, but people I know, they always drive into driveways/parking spots, never reverse in.
But if I live on a main road, like if you live on Botany Rd/or one of the main roads linking ORiordan and Botany, where its very busy, and if I drove, I would reverse in, as its easier to drive out.
But I guess, if I were to reverse in, then I would also be slowing traffic.

Always reverse, as you have the front wheels at the rear so to speak which is easier, and has less wear on your tires...

Just have a look in the car park in your nearest Woolie's store - the cars that are all over the place are those who park from the front.

That's quite funny. After this mornings discussion on AFF I went to Dan Murphy. I parked front in as per usual. And there next to me was a car that had been reversed in. I thought I was crooked when I was in my car because we were at angles. When I got out, my car was straight. the backed in car was crooked at weird angle. Almost took a photo to post in AFF. Shame I didn't now. 😂

Reverse parking isn't a requirement in any car park in South Australia and I'd suggest 95% don't do it. She could have very safely driven in front facing. And I've backed out of that area many times without seeing any incident. So I don't get your point.
I guess I'm weighing in on this debate but I hardly ever park in shopping centre car parks front facing in. I'd say I reverse park about 99% of the time.

I'm fairly competent but not too concerned with anyone having to wait for me but they'll wait longer for me to reverse out than wait for me to reverse in.

Personally I find reversing in safer and quicker. Go past the parking spot, stop, reverse in. Fairly simple process. If I have to reverse out then need to constantly keep checking who is behind, which way am I reversing out depending on how close the other cars are parked next to me.

Also based on what I've experienced over the years most have no idea how to park and that includes both reversing in or front in. Not sure how they ever got their licence.

Reverse in. Much easier to see what is coming when driving out forward. As long as you watch and are careful, there should be nothing in the parking spot to hit when reversing in. If you are reversing out and someone drives into you, you will be likely to be found at fault because you were reversing, even though someone else was causing an issue.

I prefer to reverse into carpark but I love using my car cameras but dont ask me to do reverse park in hubbys Izuzu Dmaz - its a beast

From a safety perspective alone always reverse. It's mandatory in some environments for this reason.

Even in a public carpark, you will be liable if reversing and you hit somebody, so reversing makes sense.

I drive in and in our Woollies and Coles car parks the ones that have reversed In are never straight in their spot. So I hate it when I come back to my car and a new car beside me has backed in as sometimes it means getting in my door is nearly impossible.
And cars backing in take more time to do so compared to driving in.Backing out takes less time as you generally can drive straight of rather than toing and froing as most cars do when backing in.

PS more likely to hit another car when backing in rather than driving in. I have been a victim of such an incident.

I learned to drive a little while back and my dad insisted that the vehicle( of whatever persuasion) should always be reversed in to a park ; in that position it was best prepared to exit quickly and safely.. how may fire engines do you see parked nose in ?
Having said all that I tend to slovenly laziness these days and often park park nose in to match everyone else….

We call that a "girl's park" - no offence meant to any AFFer's, my son in law even does it now!
I can own that!

But that can happen when reversing in too? Seems like the advantage is simply being able to exit quickly.

There's one in every bunch....

Clearly but research shows that reverse parking is safer. And others have also explained the benefits on this thread, but you do you of course.
That's just rubbish. And as a non-driver, are you qualified to comment?

I have to admit to being a tad OCD, so when I do park, if I'm not exactly in the middle of the parking bay, I go forward a little and correct my error. My car is a 2009 model, and all I have to assist reversing is a audible warning to indicate how close I am to the car behind me. My car is a VW Caddy van, and has a long wheelbase, so going in front first requires quite a wide turn to be in the middle of the lines.
