I was thinking to park my car on the street near SYD Intl. airport. I think Getrude St has free unlimited car parking available but not sure how easy it is to get a spot there. Everytime I drive past in a taxi I don't see many (if at all) empty spaces.

I was also wondering about this park opposite the canal. I think it belongs to Marrickville Council and there are some sports facilities as well. There seem to be gates to enter and exit the car park but I've never seen them closed. Anyone parked there and then walked across the canal to the terminal? I couldn't see any signs to say that it was illegal to park there all day or over night...

I park nearby at either that little run off street from Marsh Road or around the corner on Rockwell Ave or Levey Street.

I drive my 'old bomb' there given that I leave my car up to two weeks at a time - so if the car goes astray oh well ;)

It is a good 15minute stroll to the airport though which can be a bit of a nuisance if you have luggage but hey, its free and it does the job for me.

Interestingly when I did a SYD Tarmac Tour in 2005, part of it included the left vehilces 'graveyeard' toward the SE corner of the airport.

It seems that people such as backpackers having used their " 'old bomb' " with their travels simply park the jalopy in the carpark, catch the courtesy bus to the terminal and fly off, never intending to return to the vehicle.

This had changed somewhat in recent times there is no longer a courtesy bus to international and it now costs to take public transport between the Domestic and International terminal.

Not sure if it was the same street or not....but a colleague has his car towed away for doing the above;) I guess you could get away with it for a day or two, but for 2 weeks???:?:

Anyone done the walk from Wolli Creek train station (much cheaper to get off here:mrgreen:) to the international terminal, like the walk from Mascot train station to the Domestic terminal [see below]?;)

I don't think they could tow you with 2 weeks notice. Even if the annoyed residents (and I'm sure some of them will be annoyed that people keep parking in front of their houses for weeks) called the council it would normally take a few days for them to fix a sticker on your car. And I think they have to give you 4 weeks time to move your car before they tow it. Unless, of course, you park in a zone that is 2P or something but we're not talking about that, right?

So, no one has tried this car park on the other side of Alexandra Canal yet? I think it's in Holbeach Av off the Princess Highway...

The streets that I mentioned previously have no signage so one can park there as long as one wish.

I am guessing that your colleague parked on Marsh Road because although you can park there all weekend, come Monday morning and it's a clearway.

Not to be attempted with luggage, golf clubs, carry bag and duty free especially after arriving on an overnight flight BKK-SIN-SYD.

I'd park somewhere along the 400 bus route and pay the 2-3 dollars for the ride.

I can't say I've ever considered parking too much for the International Airport. Usually I'm going for a lengthy time so I suffer my pride and pay an ridiculous amount for the train. (Don't get me started on that - but I WON'T get a taxi!)

Twice, for Sunday day trips to Auckland I've managed to get parks just off Marsh Street near the Sports club. But I'm usually there around 5am in those cases, so parking is plentiful.

As for Tempe, I do know that they close the gates for that Sports complex. And at the moment there is some sort of construction which appears to have blocked that access off, but I'm not sure. My suggestion is the streets near the Jets Sports Club. You could even ask the kind folk at the Jets Sports Club if you could leave your car on their property. Although I don't think it would be any more or less secure. :)

Mr Ed has probably got the best idea, although I might try the Wolli Creek option next time I get the train.

Go the Bluebags.
