After 4 years of WP, this year some extra international J travel took me over 2400 SC's, so I have to choose my extra benefit for the first time.

I was originally thinking PG for Mrs G, who will probably do at least one flight to the UK with one small child, one flight from SYD - PER with 2 small children and maybe 1 or 2 other Dom flights throughout the year with kids and without me. The problem is I'm not sure if she'll be flying on QF (a 90 day AA pass will do the trick for lounge access) for the international flight and/or in what class. She'll definitely fly QF to Perth though and domestically.

Now I'm wondering though whether i should take the 50k points instead, and wondering what others have done with their extra benefits and why?

Also I read an article on AusBT, that I can't find again, which said that PG runs out on your partner's anniversary date. Is that is true? If so PG is waste of time as Mrs G's anniversary date is mid January.

Take the points and buy the AA 30 day membership with a credit card to earn more points.

I'll stand to be corrected but from memory the partner gold will expire 12 months from their next anniversary date I.e it is not just for the remaining term of their current status year

The person you "gift" Partner Gold to has their anniversary date reset to match yours. so they will get AT LEAST 12 months of gold.

Does Partner Gold confer OneWorld Sapphire benefits too? I assume so, since otherwise it'd be called "Partner QC membership", but it's not exactly clear from the terms.

Yes it is Qantas Gold = OW Sapphire.. it's the same as if you earned it yourself.

As indicated the Gold membership "year" becomes aligned with you WP membership "year".

So, if your's is up in "March" then the PG would be valid until March 2015.

It's a 30 day membership for USD99.

Yes, for me that's the real value - you can buy QP but you cant buy OW Sapphire. So if Mrs g travels in Y (although that's very unlikely!) or Y+ on any OW airline or EK she'll have lounge access and other benefits. But if she flies on QF there's the AA pass, or if she flies J on any airline she'll have lounge access and good seats anyway.

So tell me, are you happily married?

You're asking this question?

(PS - I wasn't casting nasturtiums about your marriage - I've got 44 years logged up and I wouldn't have had to think about that situation - she'd have told me!!!!)

Well, Mrs G has actually just said "take the points." For 2 or three trips a year she maybe right...

The points are a no brainer for infrequent travel.

If she is going to do 3 trips then the 30 day membership is a good option.

Other option is find someone who wants Gold status and have them donate the 50k points.. everyone wins then!
