Partner Status Recognition

The oneworld webpage list the few exclusion:

American Airlines’ and British Airways' Chelsea lounge at JFK Terminal 8 is not included in the oneworld lounge access policy.

British Airways' Concorde lounges are not included in the oneworld lounge access policy.

Qatar Airways' Al Safwa First and Al Mourjan Business lounges in Doha (DOH) and Qatar Airways' Premium Lounges in London (LHR) and Paris (CDG) are excluded.

Isnt the qatar SIN lounge special too? I.e. a Y saphire or emerald can't get there?

I'm lucky enough to be flying QR on a VA ticket using my QF status, so I'm definitely playing both sides.

I imagine like any oneworld lounge the process is automatic after scanning the BP.

I'm already getting WP benefits such as seat selection etc, so the system works.
I'm flying QR on a VA ticket with my VA status next month.
I'm already getting those VA platinum benefits such as seat selection. I could just as easily be using my QF Platinum as well.
My only debate is whether to send earning to QF (will retain platinum with 5 months left) or to VA (about 40% of platinum, but I still need 8 ~ and domestic VA status is cheap).

My recollection of getting into the Al Mourjan lounge last year was they stop you at the bottom of the escalator and check your boarding pass. I can't remember if it was a scan or just visual check for business.

Its a scan with a hand-held machine and a visual. Usually two people with a bias towards saying 'Nyet!' . Then re-present at the desk at the top of the escalators.

Thanks, I feel like I got through with a visual once. But my memory...

Are you flying Y or J?

business, of course.

I can't imagine economy would get Al Mourjan access of 40% of platinum requal with VA. I haven't checked that last point so can't rule out the potential to earn that much in economy.

Yeah I figured. The oneworld emerald perks I was speaking of were for Y, which I don't believe VA get (not according to their website).

Most airlines get most if not all the perks when travelling J/F (BA a notable exception for seat selection in J!).

Hard to say, digging back into my poor memory, ISTR getting free seat selection with SQ in economy back in 2015 based on platinum. The current page doesn't list seat selection for SQ either. But mixing up VA1 and VA2 is a big factor. So, I'm going to say inconclusive based on my experience. but you're probably right

I'm talking specifically about QR, and based on the current website. Also there was a thread earlier of someone complaining they couldn't select a seat. Extra baggage (possibly even priority baggage) is another thing. VA only lists lounge access, priority boarding and priority check in for VA WPs on QR.

QF WPs get all of it under oneworld (for now at least, I guess there's no limits to the fallout between QR and QF).

All of the QR Premium lounges are excluded for Status based access.
Including also SIN and BKK.
In some outstations they do provide a FF lounge for OWS/OWE eg LHR but not at all locations.

I’m not following exactly how people are acquiring their QR business tickets, (ie VA points or whatever) but I think that QR have a class of business which does not get lounge access and maybe not seat selection. So the fare bucket of your award business ticket might be worth checking. As I said, I’m not certain, but probably worth looking into.

You would still get those benefits based on status, not cabin, if you hold the requisite oneworld status.

Yes that means shunted to the WP lounge or other oneworld J/F lounge instead of the QR F lounge, but not a huge deal. There's a similar question in the EK forum about flying EK on one of those no-lounge J fares, but likewise, you still get it with QF WP status.

Oneworld page state

Qatar Airways “Business Lite” fares are not eligible for lounge access.

Finnair “Business Light” fares are not eligible for lounge access.

The J award are not business light.

My milage varies. The first time I was in DOH, traveling QR whY 😳 as a QF WP, I was shunted to the old OneWorld 'F lounge' . Honestly, it was about as nice as the QF QP in HBA 🤬.

QR in DOH now have several other newer and better lounges for OneWorld status holders, but they’re still not a patch on the dedicated QR business, and first lounges. And the new lounges are at the far end of the newly extended concourse, so a fair hike.

To summarise, QR doesn’t give a fig about any of its partners' passenger's status. It’ll always treat them in an inferior way to it's own status and premium fare passengers.

Yes, hence my comment upthread about QR being the least "team oneworld" airline in the alliance.

All I was saying is that you do get some lounge access, whether or not it's the fancy QR one.

It's a moot point for my morning flight out of SIN as the QR lounge is closed (strange for QR metal) but I have access to another lounge. I'm not particularly concerned about DOH as I elected to do an overnight stay due to QR messing up the connection, and I'm only going across the gulf to AUH. But again, there is lounge access.

In the context of the thread though, we're not comparing VA with QR or oneworld with QR, we're comparing VA with oneworld.

Yep, roger that. The current website does not mention seat selection for any VA partner. I'm not sure omission, alone, means that particular benefit is not available.

the experiences of others, as you've now raised, is a different matter.
