Passbook and Virgin Australia

I noticed this on a flight recently. I don't even know how I got it there, but my boarding pass just appeared in passbook.

Maybe I used the phone to checkin, maybe I saved the calendar note........no idea really.

I love using passbook. It makes it easy to store all previous flight details for quick reference in one spot. Sure i have email confirmations but they are hidden in amongst a billion other work emails and searching is a hassle if in a hurry.

I've only had one occasion where the reader wasn't working at the gate. All peachy for me otherwise.

I noticed that the passbook boarding pass changed colour from red to silver when my status changed which was a nice touch

Have just used passbook, on iphone, for a recent MEL-SYD return. Can't say I can really see the point, yes, check-in from my phone was easy, as was adding the BP into passbook, however what's the point of all this when as your phone is swiped at the gate, they print off a BP for you, isn't the point of this to be paperless????

This is exactly the same as using a QFF NG card when scanning at the gate it will print you a boarding 'receipt' and also the same with jetstar using their SMS boarding passes where it prints off the receipt. Personally I like a physical copy as what happens I your points don't post and it is all in the electronic atmosphere???

But the VA system doesn't just print a receipt, it prints a full BP.

Hmm, what's the difference? Isn't it all one bit of paper?
QF's 'receipt' slip takes about 4 seconds to print - the two occasions I have used VA mobile boarding pass it took around 20 seconds for the agent to look up my record on the system and print the boarding pass. Much slower. It sounds a bit trivial but when the regular boarding queue is flowing freely and the priority queue has ground to a halt behind you people get a bit antsy!

In the future if I have a mobile pass I will ask at the Lounge for a hard copy before I approach the gate.

Usually I get given a receipt that prints quickly, only once received a normal boarding pass at the gate. Maybe it differs from airport to airport. Re: legal requirement, one time, at the new gates in SYD, I was told that I didn't need any piece of paper and could show my phone when boarding. On board the person checking had never seen this before but was assured by the supervisor that it was a recent change.

Completed OLCI just now for a flight tomorrow, electing the mobile option for my boarding pass so i could use Passbook but it wouldn't go through, kept rejecting as my mobile number was invalid. There seems to be an area for Country Code (tried +61 and also leaving it blank) and the mobile number (tried all 10 digits and leaving off the leading zero to no avail). Any idea what I am doing wrong?
I last used this option in December, worked fine, but subsequently the mobile number option keeps coming up as an error.

Used it in CNS last week, and got a reciept only, no BP. Cabin crew appeared a bit confused with it on boarding so it must be newish.

Maybe just 61 rather than +61? They might have set up the form to only accept numerals. Last time I used mobile check-in it certainly accepted 04xx_xx_XX and I don't recall a spot for country code.

Thanks I'll try that next time.

Dad used Passbook on VA the other day, and his receipt at the gate I found to be a HUGE difference compared to the ones Qantas usually give me when I use my card or Passbook.

I've loaded my next flt on Tues to Passbook. I'll try to see if I can get to the gate without a ticket (I don't intend to have checked at this stage).

How does one find this app. I have the Passbook icon on my iPhone however when I open it, it only offers Ticketek and 2 others I have never heard of. I have Flight Specials already however I assume this is different. Thanks:)

When you do mobile checkin (on your phone) at the end of the process you'll generally receive a text message with a link to a boarding pass, when you open that link, it'll ask you if you'd like to store it in Passbook, you say yes and voila!

Great..thanks, haven't used mobile check-in for ages. So what's the difference then. Mobile check-in has always worked for me so what is the advantage using passbook.

Where was this? My one example was SYD T2 at one of the new end gates, 41 or something like that. Full card BP being printed.

I've had multiple dockets at SYD. Last time I was at a new SYD gate my phone was sufficient for boarding - maybe the new gates don't have docket printers?

I only remember because the staff member doing the scanning had to take off the cover from the box to retrieve the print BP as it didn't come out through the little slot.
