Passing of a Monarch

I was thinking just that when I saw what I thought was the one hearse sitting under the arch; 'What if it has a flat tyre?'
Well, with a 2nd vehicle in convoy they could of-course do a 'hot-swap' and continue almost as if nothing had happened.
2 mstrandyes raised the same question. I assured them there would be a contingency.

We had a related issue when our vintage car broke down outside Buckingham Palace en route from our wedding to reception. Had to wait a while for a replacement. Meanwhile had lots of pics taken by tourists in our finery 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️. Police were a bit antsy about the car stuck next to the Victoria Memorial

I thought that was pretty good contingency planning.

I imagine there was a lot of redundancy in the planning. As with any event, it's expected that something will go wrong. But keeping the show on the road without interruption is what matters.

And today we took A30 towards London and no evidence of the procession that took place yesterday in the opposite direction.

Interesting - wonder if the funeral becomes a superspreader event. I see Queen Margrethe of Denmark has just tested positive after attending the funeral.

The memorial service at APH has just begun - a good modern hymn to start off with (well known from years teaching at a Catholic school). ;)
And our Canberra Auslan translator was a familiar presence in the COVID daily updates.

Given the huge crowds I encountered at Green Park a few days before the funeral, the small gathering in Westminster Abbey would be but a small spreader event. There were people who had travelled from all over the UK, and quite a lot from the US fighting to get through and leave flowers at the special site set up across from the Palace in Green Park.
