Aren't visas in old passports still valid as long as you show the old and new passport?

depends on the country and few other items. I got knocked back in Pakistan many years ago believing i could get in on a visa in an old passport
 
I have a lifetime US Visa in an old passport. But I suspect it’s no longer valid.

I regret not getting one of those when I had the opportunity but as you say, it would probably no longer be valid.
