Pay Points to Extend Qantas Status

I personally would be happy to pay 120K pts to maintain Plat....I would value those points bet $600 and $1200.
Considering with that many points you can book a business class flight to the Americas I reckon its value is far more than $1200. What I will say is that if you use the benefits of Platinum enough it could be warranted. For instance if you are usinn the Flounge every month, checking an extra bag or are booking long haul reward flights and enjoy forcing QF to release award seats for you

This! And ability to call Hba! Last WE I cancelled a red e deal flight Syd-Ool which I already checked in for 45 mins before take-off...the Hba agent answered in less than 5 mins and gave me a travel credit for the amt I paid for the flight, and did not charge me the $99 cancellation fee. If I wasn't Plat, I would still be waiting on the phone as the flight took off...

I think the points spend is dependant on how many points you have and your travel pattern
If solemnly domestic only then probably no great value seeing domestic J lounges serve the same wines.
Can always upgrade to J using the points

It's not actually a 'force', it's a request. While there are many examples of success, there are many 'computer says no' results.

Well with me loosing BA gold already and Mrsdrron loosing WP we had a better way. The BA BKK return special fare . Fly F out of SYD sl Flounge access and QF flights to and from SYD in J so J lounge domestic access.
Basically only $1000 dearer than a Circle Asia fare through QF in J pre covid. Doesn't even come up in search on QF now.

I know you travel overseas often and that would make sense if you were generating points very cheaply and 120,000 points were just a drop in the ocean and you are doing multiple overseas trips on Qantas points travelling Oneworld airlines.

This. And I'd add P1's also get declined on requests too.

I did lol @ the "force" word. Maybe next time I call with a request to VIP I'll try and "Use the Force" to get a seat released (or, more likely, pick a flight likely to be approved via researching on EF :D )

Unsure if I already brought this up but BA is running a promotion through the end of next year where if you book a package holiday with BA Holidays ex-UK you can earn double tier points which could be potentially lucrative if you play your cards right. What is interesting about this promotion is you don't even need to book a hotel with the flight, it could be just flight + car rental.

I know of someone who renewed their Platinum with points in recent weeks. They were a couple of hundred SC’s short and couldn’t get a SC run in.
Oh this is giving me hope after the surprise leukaemia diagnosis has ruined my retention plans. I’ll likely he about 300 SC short for WP and would pay the points to retain as I hope to travel A LOT once this health hiccough is behind me.

I might have just been randomly picked. There appears to be another discussion on this subject from another member. Has anyone else been offered this deal ?

One thing I would try if I was you would be applying for status hold. Yes I know on the website it says it is designed primarily for new/expecting parents who are on maternity leave, but surely something unexpected in the health department like leukaemia would qualify as well?

In any event, I sincerely hope you get better and fight off that cancer, mate. As someone who spent the better part of a month in hospitals back in 2008 for a health related surprise, I can appreciate that this must be a challenging time, and one that a company like Qantas should recognize requires some accommodation too.

Really pleased that they are offering to a select group of the possibility of paying via points for another year (as per the AFF email )
Would happily spend the points to continue having platinum this coming year. I am nowhere near the required status credits

Just curious though, what plat benefits are worth keeping over gold if there isn't a lot of flying being done.

I only have to do 1200 status credits. For a variety of reasons this year it just wasn't feasible. However if I can get to sustain platinum....ok waffling aside I just like the luggage loads, the small checking in line and last but definitely not least the lounges :), trying to obtain LTG

I agree but it’s kind of a chicken or egg situation, without WP good luck getting a business class flight using points.

Personally, I’d never do it - but if people have more points than they could ever use - may as well.

It is the "isn't a lot of flying being done" that is key here. If not enough to requalify, but quite a lot anticipated, and want access to F lounges internationally, extra guests, better IRROPs protection, less SC to requalify next year, the benefits can be substantial.

If not planning to make much use of it, then agree, not much point.

Just got the offer this morning. I am 300SC short of renewal of Gold, so felt like it was a good deal - was told it should process in 2-3 business days
Two questions:
- what did they charge you in points?
- how many SCs did you earn in the two years prior to this one?
