Pay Points to Extend Qantas Status

Just to add another data point to the discussion:
  • WP status expires end of September
  • 4 QF sectors already flown
  • ~800 SCs left to requalify
  • Points balance currently ~60k
Was told there is nothing they can offer me to retain. I have only held WP for 3-4 years so maybe that factors in, as well as not currently having the points balance (however I can get the points fairly easily).

Not too concerned really, as the amount of flying I will be doing over the next year is low. And still wasn't sure if parting with the 120k points was even something I was willing to do!
Thankyou for asking and reporting back. I'll likely be in the same situation this time next year.

Data point:
Mr k_sheep had enough SC to requalify for SG but didn't have enough ~. My fault - I just scanned and saw there were more than 4 QF flights, not quite realising some were reward flights.

Offered 80k points to reinstate. That was a heck no for me.

It was suggested earlier that one has to be a “high value customer“ or to have been WP for multiple years to get an offer. My experience does not confirm this.

I got to WP accidentally by making a DSC J trip to Europe plus a few domestic flights. I fully expected not to be able to retain, but then there was the final COVID 500 SC carryover and I flew enough get to 840 SC and I had a booking for a DSC J trip to Cairns, which would get me over the line in the last week of my year. Just before that holiday I received the offer. Obviously I didn’t take it.

SG for 8+ years (could be longer) but will fall short 250 SC to re-qualify

Have flow 10+ sectors

I have Points Club so was going to take do some status runs and try re-qualify that way

What are the chances of getting an offer?

I have north of 2.5m QFF points so not worried about the points

Don't wait for the offer, call and ask. Then tell us what they say.

In addition, book a Classic Reward status run late in your membership year now. If you get an offer that works out to be a better status credit per point value (it seems like the gold renewal price is usually 80k), then cancel the status run for only the cost of the cancel fee.

Hi, a long-time lurker and first time commenter who is WP with 31-AUG anniversary date.

Called QFF (Philippines call centre) in mid-AUG-2024 and requested WP extension for 120k FF points, given - as I now live in Europe - would only achieve 625 SCs by anniversary date (last 120 credited 27-AUG). They wouldn’t process the extension until I reached 600 SCs / 50% required to retain WP (I’d already achieved the 4x QF flight sectors).

They advised the 50% requirement reflected a new mid-JUL-2024 QFF policy, given I queried - as it appeared inconsistent with some of the other anecdotes shared here.

EDIT: had 200k QFF points and WP since 2017. They also stressed this was a one-time offer, even for years down the track and if I was at a lower status ie SG (and I hadn’t used points to retain for that lower one).

Thank you very much for sharing this. Interesting they pushed it being one time only.
