Paying off the card at Woolworths

My advice/experience is to avoid the younger kids who likely haven't done it before

Avoid busy times of the day as well so Saturdays/Sundays

This thread has got me curious & maybe I'm dumb but the only way to get smarter is to ask , what is the benefit of paying the card with cash ?

The reason I pay cash is I don't want my banks knowing about each other - makes it easier for me when I "churn" cards - though this will probably change with the new reporting guidelines. Also don't use internet banking with one account (to help me save ) but the ATM card still works fine ;)

Bad news but the banks know about each other via credit report and especially as the rules have changed this week.

The payment processing time for bpay isn't a reason as it is credited on the transaction date not the date it finally gets into the account.
True, but you can't use that money until it's in your account.

If you're using the money as cold hard cash then there is no reason the money can't be available in your account. Unless money laundering is involved.

I think the reference was to the use of BPay, and the fact that if it took a few days to process, the fact that the payment was taken to be made on the day transferred, doesn't alter the fact that you can't spend that money through the card until it has been processed to the card.

 I don't follow, but don't want to make an issue of it either.

I was just indicating that if, say, you want to use the Woolies card to pay for something online and the money has left your bank account via BPay but is not yet available in WOW then you can't make the transaction. This could happen over a weekend, for example.
If, however, you were to take it out as cash from your bank and pay it in at WOW then it is.

Lets say you have near maxed you limit and it's a Saturday morning and you decide want to purchase something online.

Go to an ATM and withdraw what you need from your savings account, walk into to a Wollies and deposit it.

The funds are pretty much immediately available and you can go and do your online purchase using the card.

With Bpay you would need to wait until at least Tuesday to use the card for an online purchase.

Nice you've all given specific examples that apply to limited situations. I must agree that scenario would make bpay not the best. (I didn't think about it because I'm lucky to have plenty of limit). Well done.

Still I'm not sure how a limited scenario relates to my comment in relation to a blanket statement of never using bpay.
