Thank you Mal and Dave for the advice. I will let you know how I get on when I have the trip details fully worked out.
Note that platinum advantage members can already use Australian billing
address credit cards through AA customer service. Just make sure you
call the US number (which from australia is dialled as 0011 1 800 843 etc)
and if they ask, remind them that it's a platinum benefit.
I've done about a dozen transactions through the US plat desk with
various Australian Amex's in the last 2 months.
Tonight I called the platinum desk to pay the taxes on an award flight and
wasn't able to use my aus billing address amex. I had to use a US credit card.
Having done this dozens of times, as I said above, I said I was sure that
it was a platinum benefit to be able to utilise non US billing address cards.
The person I was talking to claimed that it was a platinum executive benefit.
I ended up using a US billing address CC, but really would have preferred to
keep all the expenses for the trip on a single credit card.
Has anyone else had this experience, or is able to confirm the policy?
Also, if things really have changed, when did the change come into effect?
Cheers.
Just about 2 weeks ago I made an AAdvantage AAward booking for myself and Mrs NM and was able to pay over the phone at the time of making the booking using my Australian Amex Rewards Maximiser credit card. The EXP desk AAngle was not sure if it would work, but she said the system returned her a ticket number and the ticket showed as issues, which meant it worked. The following day I have 2 entries on my Amex account from AA for the taxes amount for each ticket.Tonight I called the platinum desk to pay the taxes on an award flight and
wasn't able to use my aus billing address amex. I had to use a US credit card.
