Payment Options

I am looking at booking business class fares which will be for around $24,000. What's the best way to book with a $10,000 credit card limit.
You can put extra money into your CC to increase the available balance.

I regularly do this with suppliers that send me 50k + bills but don't charge a cc fee.

In your case put an extra $14k (or more) into the CC account which would give it 24k available.

Put your card into $14k credit before making the booking
Don't do this! Credit card very likely to be blocked.

Putting cc into credit may only work for some banks, in my experience Amex doesn't allow it.
Small over payments are ok. AMEX does allow this. But massive overpayments will cause problems.

This has been covered in other threads already.

I've pushed over 100k in a payment on a 25k limit card. I regularly do 50k+. It's all to do with what your bank expects from you. Also if you walk in branch and explain the transaction, that would get over any flags.

Yeah, I'm stuck with this problem now since Diners has gone by the board (well 2 days to go!)

i had gathered you can't "nominate" your preferred credit limit at the time of a new application and in any event I vaguely recall it being something around 25% of annual salary.

personally, I don't prefer to phone the CC company but might be the only way to get around the conundrum of capped limits with J fares being more than current limit - especially if I'm paying for 3!

I had to do this recently now that there is no more poli , but checked with credit card provider first. I’m guessing PayPal isn’t an option for you either ?

I agree that the best way to find solution would be talking to your bank branch manager.
Hope that the bank will accommodate your needs. 🤔

NO
while I have diversified my cards, I'm not planning on going into Paypal

I suppose AMEX charge card is an alternate - aside seeking a hefty credit limit

The other options are:

1. Buy QF Gift vouchers and pay for the fares using a combination of gift vouchers and credit card. You can buy an $8k GV on your credit card, then make an $8k early payment on CC, rinse and repeat until you have sufficient vouchers. This isn't putting your card into credit (early repayments are allowed) if being in credit is an issue for Amex and you still get the benefit of bonus points for Qantas spend and possibly still have CC TI.

2. Arrange for a temporary increase of your daily withdrawal limit on a transaction account (you can typically do this yourself online with most banks), then pay $24k onto your Qantas Travel Money Card and use that to pay for the airfares (basically a pre-paid card). Then you can again lower your daily withdrawal limit to the usual $2k of whatever; and still earn QF points.

However, most bank issued cards ime do not have an issue being in credit, if concerned call telephone banking and let them know before hand.

And no credit card fee surcharge

Thanks !

Great idea
I appreciate the help

Ive put $$ into a CC many times putting it into credit.
The most I've put in was $50K
I did indeed put money into the CC of gosh a lot.... it got picked up and put me in debit so to speak giving me the chance to "buy a J/F fare" if needed - in any event, I figured it was barely a few months of "normal spend" after home loans were practically zilch, anyway, but also had to find a way to keep complimentary travel insurance (limited to 3 months) and pay for the children's fares to Europe (in cattle class) as well
