Hi All!

Considering flying CX early next year HKG-DXB return in Premium Economy (A330).

Having never flown CX PE before just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the product?

It will be myself QF WP and wife QF SG flying.

Having flown PE on QF A380 before and it was pretty good, also wondering how that compares with CX PE?

Experiences appreciated! Thanks!! :)

Not the same. QF PE is miles above CX PE. I've done SFO-HKG-SYD-HKG-LAX in PE on CX and SYD-SCL-SYD, SYD-LAX-SYD, SYD-(BKK)-LHR-(SIN)-SYD in QF PE on combinations of 744, 388, 777, 333 and I would certainly take the QF product over CX any day.

The particular route I am flying doesn't have QF on it anyway (HKG-DXB) so i'll either be flying CX Y or CX PE.
The price is around $900 return for PE, Y was only a little bit less.
What are the seats like? and the food?

In that case definitely go for PE, money well spent. You will be more comfortable for sure. It won't be QF PE but it ain't whY. Think whY food and catering with a slightly bigger seat.

QF PE is J-, CX PE is Y+

They are both good products - the difference is really in the "soft" elements, eg more attentive on QF and slightly better food.

I find both seats more than adequate in terms of pitch and recline, much of a muchness really.

I have just completed 3 segments in Y+ on CX (MEL-HKG-FRA and LHR-HKG) and as stated before the only real difference with QF is the food (more 2 course meal than 3 courses).

Regarding the crew, I have sometimes seen some very average service from the cabin crew using QF Y+, never something I experienced with CX in any class of service. In addition, as a OW Emerald I usually get CSM greeting, CSM chatting and even CSM bowing in rare occasions...:D

Thanks all, I think I might bite the bullet and book CX PE unless QF come out with a PE sale syd-hkg before early next year like that did recently at$1300 rtn. Otherwise it'll be syd-hkg rtn in Y and HKG-dxb rtn in PE!

the cx PE seat is certainly far more comfortable than economy. if the fare is $900 and only marginally more than economy I'd go for it... preferable even to the free exit rows you can get in Y on cx.

the A330 doesn't have a dedicated toilet, you have to share with coach. (777 and 747 have dedicated facilities)

I see that there is survey on flyer websites for best premium Y seats on local flyers. The Qantas seat 50% and the Cathay 31% and the Air New Zealand 19%. it is located on VOX POLL | Frequent Flyers Australia if you wanted to look at resulting answers but please noted that this surveying the passenger from sydney to LHR so maybe there are different seating for the local flights and regional

all cx premium economy seating is the same, difference only with the a330 (not sure about the 340) not having a dedicated WC. cx only offers PE on long-haul configured aircraft (those with full flat beds in business).

as for the poll... I find it hard to judge. all PE seats are pretty much same same... 38' pitch and 9' recline. and they're all the same width. the main differences come in the service and food.
