Qantas flights to Palau

Followed the link but still cannot work out the SC situation. I tried to book a MEL/KOR return in J in early May and aside from being unable to find any J to BNE, the total status credits as per the website was 30 (ie only the MEL/BNE legs in Y). Are Qantas not going to award any SC for this BNE/KOR flight? Can anyone please clarify (apologies if this has been answered somewhere else in another thread)

The inaugural flights were this weekend.

BNE-ROR yesterday had 30 passengers, while ROR-BNE had 17.

Do we have any idea of how these flights are subsidized? Government pays fixed amount per flight? Government makes up a shortfall after pax numbers know?

$7,836,400.00 paid for the period 1-Dec-2024 to 30-Nov-2025

So around 75k per flight (each way). Presumably, there’s no funding link to how well patronized the flights are. Ie if flights are full, QF still gets the full funding.

I've gotta say I'm actually impressed particularly with the ROR-BNE as none of the pax would have been taken there by QF (unless someone on the first flight did an overnight turn?)

Nauru had bookings open until early next year, so I am guessing pax may have just been moved across.
